Hi people

I have the possiblity to by a 2001 180 manual, mileage is 23000 with full history. I don't know yet the equipment inside but might know the pros and cons?

Cheers

David

Don't buy a manual mercedes unless youre getting it dirt cheap or are going to hang onto it for a long time. its mistake number 1.

Mistake number 2 is buying a non metallic colour. Stick with a light metallic with a grey or black inside and auto and youre winning :)

In terms of resale value, a manual should be cheaper than "the more desirable" automatic which was a £1450 option. Colour is preferred to me metalic, both because it looks better and doesnt scratch just as easily as MB water based non metalic paint.
Look for full MB history, have it HPI checked and get it inspected for accident damage.

Dont get too uptight about classic, elegance, advantgarde as its possible to get a C180 classic with leather, climate, decent ICE, alloys etc and a top of the range Advantgarde/Elegance with cloth seats, and no toys.

Let us have the full spec and we'll comment further. BTW if its a manual car you do realise you cant hill start it unless you have an extra leg graffed on to your body!
I'll get my coat...........

hi all

Thanks for your comments. It is a 180 Classic manual silver lady owner (X reg) with light grey trim, fully serviced by Mercedes from new last service yesterday and clear MOT apparently always hand washed as well. The car is immaculate and will end up on exchange and mart fairly soon as I have decided against it at the end. Mercedes offered her £11000 but she knows she can get more for it.

Cheers

Check the front suspension for clonking-known weak spot on 2/3 year old C-Classes. A friend had the same problem (around £ 385 to fix +VAT if no warranty)

Check for uneven tyre wear.

Check air con/climate blows really cold: else megga bucks to fix.

Check paintwork quality.

Interior trim fragile.

Do not be fooled by the 'mercedes quality' hype.

Ask owner about warranty fixes-ask dealer for complete history printout (£20)

Got to www.honestjohn.co.uk and check out the car-by-car breakdown section.

£11k seems more than fair for it considering its a manual. It should be a bit harder for her to shift than the auto version. personally i don't think its worth not getting the manual unless youre getting an amasingly low price on one and you don't mind the need for a 3rd leg on hillstarts
