My W205 doesn't have headlamp washers - something I have had on other Merc's for 12 years. Are the lights (ILS or not) so different that they do not require them ? - I have read that the lights make so much heat that cold water sprayed on them wouldn't do them a lot of good, so I think they removed the washers for that reason rather then because they are not needed.

How did they perform last winter - did you have to regularly clean them ?

Far as I knew, only cars with Xenons (after a certain date) needed washers fitted, are yours halogen?

And no washers?! There must be a genuine reason for that then, heat though? As mentioned above surely rain would pose more of a problem than a tiny spray every 50 or so window wipes

I don't think there are bi-xenons on the W205. The intelligent light system is full LED. Standard i believe is halogen and then partial LED is the middle option.

The reason cars with Intelligent light system don't have washers, is because the LEDs don't put out a lot of heat. Xenons get much warmer and that's why they need washers. Dirt would melt and stick to the glass, hence affecting the beam if they didn't.

no xenons on w205, its either halogen, high performance led or intelligent led system. High performance has both hi and low beam in led but manually switched between the two, ils is automated as name suggests and has two projector style housings in each headlight.

Many thanks all - I now understand. My ILS on the C Class is LED but on the CLS is was bi-xenon. I just hope I don't have to keep the lens clean 'manually'. Thanks again
