C180 - Exhaust Problem

Guys looking for some advice.

Exhaust's blowing either from before or around the CAT and also around the joint with the rear section and no doubt elsewhere on the rear section as i'm sure it's the original one.

Cars done nearly 140000 and is now suffering from poor take off's which i assume is down to the exhaust as you can hear it labouring. Thing is would this exhaust issue also cause the engine to backfire?

I've changed plugs and ignition coils and disconnected the battery for an hour and the car ran fien with the blowing exhaust for a few days.

Any thoughts?

If the leak is before the Cat and lamda sensor then the mixture will be richened to ballance the air leaking into the system.

I have had funny noises from and lack of 'punch' on kick down from my exhaust sysyem on my c180 and I have found out that its the cat thats begining to collapse. Should it fully collapse it could bloke the system and not do your engine much good .

It could be something similar ... Hope this helps
