cheers for the feedback all, appreciate its a bit of a personal choice issue but the different points of view help.
Really i want a car that will have good residuals so that i can sell it on in 12 months, add another 5K and buy something nice/better/newer so if autos have better residuals and are easier to sell because of the "luxury" perception than thats something to consider.
A far as driving goes, i don't mind really manual or auto its doesn't matter.
cheers

No need to bite, you could have just left it be

Depends what you class as low powered - the K is a twin turbo. AND... the gear box is steptronic ( or is it tiptronic ones a porche and goes up and down as opposed to left and right ) so you can sort of control the gears if you wish.
so, i did a bit of digging on autotrader etc. seems the ratio of auto to manual is at least 2:1 so the signs are auto is the way to go for better sellability etc. in the future.
another question though, whats the difference between a normal auto box and a tiptronic/sequental (as parkers describes it) auto????

Just be carefull ......
There was another ''auto'' available up until a year or so ago and, at the risk of a flaming here, it was described as a ''sequential'' manual/auto.
If the good lord had wanted us to drive manuals he'd have given us three legs and arms An Auto is actually faster to accelerate in real life as nobody outside of Tiff Needell or Jeremy Clarkson would treat a manual in a way necessary to get maximum acceleration, and I'd bet those two would only get it right about 50% of the time if that.

I was advised by the dealer/s themselves to steer clear of these because they were trouble and no wanted them as a used option. The exact name of the device escapes me at the moment but I'm sure someone will tell me. I'm not saying they are in any way rubbish at all, it was just a dealer comment, I've never driven one but the dealers did have a downer on them so.......
The proper MBZ auto is un-mistakeable though and as grober said, moving the selector right/left moves you up and down the box manually, amongst other stuff.
Portzy.
Why would you need three legs to drive a manual?
Do you find the car makes a loud "bang" noise when releasing the hand operated foot/hand brake?!
I was told to cover the pedal when releasing and it stops that awful bang! Only learnt that the other day.....
So how do you do that having only two legs? See I'm ok having got the full three..
Doesn't it have a rubber stop for the pedal?
Depends on how far you step on the pedal. if you step it to the first click, there is not much noise

There are far more manual cars in this country than autos and i have not seen anyone yet with three legs.
i am also willing to bet that no one here has an auto only licence .
This is down to choice and individuality and i hate autos as i do not want cramp from my left foot sitting all day doing nothing . I still maintain they are also less reliable and need more care and attention.
I have never had a manual box fail on me but i have had two autos go with torque converter and clutch problems.
