C200 Gearbox

The gearbox on my 1995 C200 always starts in first and seems to drive the same irrespective of whether it is in E or S mode. Am I right in assuming that it is not switching modes and is stuck in S?

Sounds like it. Although even in "E" mode, it can be overridden by using Kickdown, I think . . . could be a faulty switch somewhere.
