Hey everyone, just bought a C200k with 38000 miles MB FSH, mint condition, build date december 2002. No warning messages, everything perfect. I heard this build date has the mod's correcting all the serious oil seal and rad problems,is this true? Hope so, some of the horror storys I've read here scare the xxxx out of me! Have I just done 5 grand on a lemon ????

Did you read what we said on the other thread about checking the rad before you started this new thread ?

yeah the cars vin number according to 'honest john' is not one of the cars fitted with the valeo, more worried about the oil seals leading to ECU damage etc.

Gonna rely on Honest John and not take a look yourself ? Braver than me !

Your'e right, gonna look into it myself tomorrow, any idea if the other problems are imminent considering the cars age and mileage?

Best thing initially , is to get it on a STAR and see what fault codes are logged.

Interesting. You mean this will show previous faults that have been repaired? Where to find a STAR anyway? indipendant or MB?

The car will log and store faults in the cars memory . When the cars connected to STAR all control units can be checked , any faults will show as STORED or CURRENT AND STORED .

Thanks, any idea if its true that build dates after July 2002 for the C200k have the mod's correcting most of the serious problems?

Has the car got the 1.8 litre engine ( aka m271 ) ? I didnt think that this engine suffered the problem of oil travling along the loom to the ECU ?
As for the valeo rad , if you unsure then just changs it , i did with my E , only cost 180 pounds for the rad and then 80 for the oil and filter to service the box .

No its the 2.0 litre. any idea if there were improvements in build quality after july 2002? Right now the car is superb to drive in every way with no errors.
