Hi all,

I have a 2001 C200K(W203) which has lux automatic climate control, just recently when you switch the car on you get a semi loud clicking noise from the passenger side front dashboard for about a minute only.It sounds if it is from the ventilation system as you can hear motors opening what I assume are the flaps where the air comes from .I have tried keeping the system on as soon as you start the car and also keeping it switched off but it makes no difference.Does anyone know what this could be? and if it is anything to worry about! Thanks

Hiya,

I have a c200k (w203) as well - same problems, but nothing to worry about - will cost you about a grand to set right, but the good news is - you dont have to....

Hi Tmienterprises,

Thank you for the response - and putting my mind to rest on this matter.

yikes , thats a lot of footering , what do those wee white bits actually do?

clicking

hi i had the same problem with my w203, when the ignition is switched on the clicking starts and goes after a minuite or 2 and the dash vents give out limited air wen air con is on, i went ot mercs who said it was a stepper motor and the cost of the part was about £100 which was not a problem as the sound was driving me mad as well as the car sounding cheap to passengers, but the £1300 price tag to replace was too much, so i decided to buy the part, and fit myself i got mercs to print me off the parts diagram and location and all i did was open the dash up from the passenger side removed the sound system, and then connected up the dash controls and air controls(as the clicking stops if these are removed). i then switched on the ignition, to pin point the source of the clicking, when i did i disconnected the clicking motor and checked by turnining on the iginiton i then replaced the motor which was behind some sound proofing and then tested again and problem solved! i fitted it all back in after giving the dash area a good clean and now its trouble free, the best part is mercs said it was a two day job and a complete strip and rebuild of the dash which was total rubbish it took me 3 hours and a little fiddling with various screwdrivres but its achivable, all u need to do is pinpont the clicking and if its from the front of the dash its easy at the rear and it requires a bit more time but no need to remove the whole dash! just the bottom half. if you need more help let me know ill try to advise, but saying this im competant in mechanics and can strip and rebuild most cars in no time at all. regards merc man!
