C220 CDi Auto probs

Well latest news ------------ Still totally p***ed off. been on holiday for two weeks but arrainged to get it sorted while i was away. My son dropped the car off on the 15th march for full diognostic to find out why it continues to drop into "limp" mode even after the ATF change and New pressure sensors. The reason is "one of the three clutch plates has failed and needs to be replaced, take the box out, strip it and replace with new bearings seals etc. etc." Not too long of a job, but could be a wait 'cos the parts need to come from Germany.
Well now fully refreshed and relaxed I come back from hols and ??? No car ??? "Parts not in from Germany !! but when they do get in we can turn it round really quick" !!! No loan car, no transport Ive now got a hire car @ £25 per day with repair costs of approx £ 2000 to look forward to.
Totally totally p***ed off !!!!

Well my car is booked in on 7th April with my dealership to have it's "B" service a little prematurely and of course to diagnose and hopefully rectify this problem.

My concern now is that maybe this is more serious than I had first thought. Whilst all 3 of us seem to enjoy 2002 model cars, we have different engines but wonder if we share the same gearboxes? Any thoughts?

AND IS THERE ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE WHO HAS OR HAS EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM???

My problem is excacerbated by my dealer who takes the car in, doesn't solve the problem but provides a bill and suggests a solution and then takes at least 5 weeks for a slot to book it in again - frustrating to say the least.

Yes, been there done that: in 30 months my 2003 C180K (25K miles) has had about 25 dealer visits and half are repeat visits. The stealers have no diagnostic skills at all. E.g. Car CD player would 'click' and skip tracks so they wanted to replace the rear bonded screen due to 'aerial radio interference' for a cool £385+VAT warranty claim from DCUK. 'But surely its easier & logical to swop the CD unit for diagnostic reasons first' I asked. 'Er, no' they said.

So, took car to another dealer: CD unit was faulty and replaced.

Anyway, my tiptronic 'box is on the way out: cannot shift from 4th to 5th. Stealer visit for this next week (and for corrosion). I am dreading it 'cause they cannot diagnose sh*t.

Fingers crossed

Well I think after 3 weeks and £ 0,000 's spent !!
I think its fixed ??!!
complete box strip down £ 1200 new parts and The wrong parts, parts to follow, my indie has
(touch wood, fingers crossed, lucky heather, rabits foot, etc.etc.etc.)
Finally fixed the fault, I hope that in the next few weeks i'm not coming back with the same fault.
if you want any info just mail me
Thanks
Neil

Great news (fingers crossed lol!) Neil !!! - sorry I should have updated the thread with my own experience following my stealership visit on the 7th.

It was booked in for a "B" service and I asked them to prioritise the diagnosis before embarking on the service, which they did. Apparently they found that the Gearbox Plug had been fitted incorrectly which in turn meant the Gearbox Oil had fallen significantly. They told me this causes the transmission to trip out. They refitted the said plug (which of course, given the age of my car, could only be the fault of the stealership or the one who they bought the car off for me), refilled the gearbox with oil and hey-presto and many fingers crossed, they have cured the problem.

The true test will come at the end of May when I take the car to the South of France for a European Holiday.
