C220 CDI AVANTGARDE Diesel - New MB Owner!

M for manual, cars with steering wheel paddle shifters.

Russ

As on my SLK...Comfort, Sport, Manual (which is still auto, just a little more aggressive than S)

Ok so I read through my manual and it doesn't even mention W/S?! It does mention all the other variations - Maybe I don't have the correct manual? Anyway I tried pressing this button with the ignition on and off and no difference so maybe I have a fault...

I think we can agree to disagree, it obviously differs from model to model. My car has W/S but my dads '06 E220 CDI has C/S. I think later cars 'S' is for sport, but as has been said, the manual would be the best source of info. Surprised you say it doesnt mention it at all?
If its not changing on the dash, or there is no physical indication of it changing (through driving it), then yes i would say you probably could have a fault?

In your handbook is there not a diagram of the dash board and the area around the gear selector? If there is, surely the button is labelled.

It is labelled but not "W/S" instead it has "C/S".

Either way I want to try and use it to see what the difference is. My dash has a W on it above where it shows what gear the box has selected. When I press the button nothing changes on the dash and nothing changes when driving...

Something does not add up here, if your dash has W showing & does not change to S, it needs looked at.

Agreed, need to now find a local garage in London that is trustworthy...:wallbash:

But in post 3 you said W/S. Perhaps this is why we are all so confused:wallbash::wallbash:

Do you have a camera? Take a photo for us.

I had a 2002 C220cdi. My auto had a W/S switch and at that time main dealer advised that W was winter (started in 2nd gear) and S was standard.
A simple test - get to a flat area, select drive, take foot off brake and don't press accelerator. If car is starting in first gear (S) the car will pull away and increase to about 7mph without any accelerator input and hold that speed.
If starting in second gear (W) again take foot off brake, no accelerator, car will increase to about 13mph & hold that speed.

Sorry my fault the manual is labelled as C/S

And the Car has W/S but the switch doesn't do anything. W stays highlighted permanently. I think I may need an auto electrician?

OK I fixed it myself...I took the cover off the gear lever to get to the switch and pulled out the wire from underneath it and plugged it back in next to it (had 2 places to plug the one set of wires) and now the switch works just fine. Part of me is confused at why the wire was plugged in where it was to start with and whether I have done something I shouldnt have but the other part of me is just happy that the setting can now be changed.

Car is pulling much better is S mode compared to W mode. case closed
