Guys
I've had a problem of a slight rattle coming from the top of the engine when idling and after some investigation I've found the cause, see below:-

Can anyone tell me what is used to hold the air filter housing to the engine block?

Another question relates to a dipstick that is hidden beneath the right hand plastic engine cover - what is this for?

probably to check the oil level if the on board computer fails.

I hope not because it's as clean as a whistle and the on-board computer tells me the oil level is ok.

It looks like the ATF dipstick tube but the wrong dipstick. That looks like an engine oil stick, which will be way too short for the ATF tube.

its the engine dip stick it should have a small cap on it not the dipstick you have got
you can check oil through the cluster or buy a workshop dipstick
the gearbox dipstick is just at the back of the airfilter box

the air box should have 2 small rubber bands which connect the airbox to the rocker cover buy the from the parts dept

The ATF dipstick cover is shown in the first picture just behind the oil filler cap.

The dipstick shown is only about 300mm long so i'd be amazed if this was in any way connected with the engine oil - there's no way it would reach the sump.

Cheers re the rubber bands, i assumed it would be something like that - i've held this up with tie-wraps just now.

the small dipstick you have is the wrong one you should have a small cap like the gearbox one

that is the tube were you can check engine oil but only if you had the correct dipstick which you can buy from the parts

thay dont come with dipsticks now so you would use the cluster to check it
