Hi

I've blanked of the egr system on my 1996 c250d by using an alumimium plate. The performance of the car is however not what is used to be. Any ideas ?
The car also seems to be not as economical as before.

I blanked mine off and whilst I did not notice a vast improvement in performance there was certainly less black smoke when pulling away from junctions. Never noticed a difference in economy, it has never been that good compared to other diesels but acceptable for the performance.

Are you sure the blanking plate is sealed properly as a leak will lower the manifold pressure. Could be coincidental with something else like a faulty sensor or blocked air or fuel filter?

All filters are clean. Where is the sensor placed and what does it do ?

Just noticed that yours is a non-turbo right? In which case yours wont have the pressure sensor on the manifold like mine that was faulty.

So with a non turbo there is less to go wrong, does it burn cleanly or emit black smoke? Not sure if yours would be ECU managed or mechanical control on the pump.

The only thing I can suggest is to remove the blanking plate and see if it goes back to normal.
