Hi,

I am looking for a diagnostic scanner for the above engine but before I purchace one I would like to know if anyone can recommend one? I have read about MBStar but it is well out of my price range and I am only after basic P codes as the EPC light is on.

I know the plug is the round 38pin type in the engine bay so I will need an adapter or to wire the interface in to the correct pins but its just the actual scanner I am unsure about, alot of the sellers are saying that they will only work with cars after 2001 and mine is 97/98.

The protocol should be OBDI but that's not guaranteed. Any scanner that can work with the Bosch diesel ECU should work.
