The radio in my 2002 C270CDi avantgarde has stopped functioning, the benz dealer has checked (free of charge)the main fuse & now thinks it may be the fuse behind the head unit. However he estimates a charge of £150 just to remove the unit & check the fuse.
The CD changer still has power to it, but the 6230 phone & radio are dead. no malfunction alert is shown & the audio dash board screen displays ---- it's the same for the phone display.
The red light on the front of the radio still flashes.
How can I remove the radio to check the connections & fuse, are special tools req'd or is a case of knowing what unclips & what doesn't.
Cheers in advance.
:(

Are we talking about a W203 model here?
If so then you cannot extract the unit with the radio removal keys.
You will need to dismantle the dash surrounding the unit.
There are a few threads on this here somewhere.
Where are you based?
Could you post a pic of the unit so that we can offer a definate solution?
Good luck

It is a w203,there doesn't appear to be any slots/holes that could be used for extraction tools.which part of the surround do you start with as there doesn't seem to be any exposed screws to start on.

I thought the centre air nozzle needs to be removed first, then the ash tray, and open two clips from the bottom?

Hi and welcome - where are you based - there may be someone local who can look at it for you much cheaper than a MB dealer

You will need a long torx 20 driver to remove the air console and surround of the radio. this may help you

The direct link did not work for me but selecting the home page first allowed me to browse and find the document.

Cheers all,
Info looks good, I will try it out this weekend & let you know it went .;)

Just a quick note: be careful and patient when removing the centre air vents.
They have some very delicate retaining tabs that will break easily if forced.

If it is a dead head unit, I have one here that I was going to put on eBay soon.

I removed it from my pre-facelift W203 a few months back to install an APS 30 satnav H/U.

The model is BE6021 (Becker) Audio 10, part # A203 620 22 86. Excellent condition - no marks or scratches, just gathering dust!

PM me if you are interested.

PS: It's about a 30 minute job, but read the 'how-to's' on here for dash removal - the vents are the most challenging part, but easy once you've done it once! (link here: http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=28530&highlight=radio+removal

Thanks,

Alex
