Hey
I just DIY'ed my IC pump. I have just fitted the Johnson CM30 pump as it was cheaper than the Bosch and by the many net searches I did, seemed to be the one to go for.
It took about 45mins. The hardest part was getting those hose clips off and then back on! I think changing the clip to this type:
STAINLESS HOSE CLIPS/CLAMPS 8MM WIDE - 14-5mm Stainless Worm Drive Type Clip :: £0.30 :: Anything Else :: Stainless Hose Clips ::
would be MUCH easier. I used an adjustable spanner (plumbers type) to get them off and back on. I then spliced the connecting cables together.
The Merc cable colours are RED and Brown. Red is RED on the Johnson and Brown is BLACK on the Johnson.
As for mounting.....just use the standard Johnson mounting kit, and bolt it into the Merc mount...don't try to use the existing Bosch mount as it is quite impossible to get off.
It all works BUT I have not driven it yet.
What I did notice though......after switching the engine off, the pump can be heard working for another 30sec or so....something I didn't hear from my last one, or haven't heard for a long while!
If you are considering doing it....just do it! I bought my Johnson CM30 from Aquafax in Luton. 01582 568700. I called them and just asked for the CM30.... they asked me if it was a Mercedes I had????? The company specialise in Boating stuff! I think that say it all.
