Hi my c350e is a 2017 plate and yesterday when I did a short run to the shops it didn’t use any electric even though I was fully charged. When I tried to change to E-mode it was greyed out.

Today I did a long motorway run and for the first 30 mins it was exactly the same, petrol all the way, but suddenly it switched to electric and behaved as normal for the rest of the journey.

Later that day, return journey was exactly the same. All petrol for first 30 mins or so then suddenly some electric use.

Each time it charges the Electric when braking just not using it in hybrid mode.

About a year ago I had an auxiliary battery malfunction and so that battery was replaced.

I don’t have the money currently due to illness for any expensive repairs, so could anyone please shed any light as to what this could be and how much he fix might be please?

It could be a 12v battery soh issue - the car thinks that the battery is not powerful enough to restart the car and so protects it by not going into EV mode. But really the car needs to go on star to see what the codes are otherwise you are guessing.
You mention illness - has the car been sitting unused? If so then invest in a battery trickle charger to keep the 12v battery in good condition - the charger is cheaper than buying a new battery and getting codes read/deleted.

Thanks, so could likely be the 12v battery? The car is used every day so hasn't been sitting unused at all. How much are MB likely to charge for 12v battery to be replaced? Is this something someone other than MB dealership can do? Or does it really need a diagnosotic to be run first to confirm this is the issue? I find it strange that after 30 mins driving it resolves itself.

MB will likely charge upward of £200.

The MB batteries (made by Varta) are very good.

But try also:

The main dealer will probably charge that to diagnose a new battery needed......
Any decent local garage should be able to test the 12v battery; and replace it if needed. Get a decent make - Varta is one of the best if not the best.

And if the 12v tests good then the car needs to go on star to find out what is wrong

Did you find what it was?
