C36 AMG Engine Anyone ?

Well it's at £1 + £100 postage.

Would be a good buy but then it'd need fitting, although it comes complete with ECU and loom.

Fitting might not be a problem ;)
I'll keep my eye on it!:)

Would that fit into a W201 or, being newer, would the electrics be too complex?

IBW, where are you ???????????????

Yes it will go into a w201 with or without either turbo or supercharger :)

I might be totally wrong here, but im quite sure only the very early c36's used to have that design rocker covers. Im quite sure a 1997 model would have had one like this

If that is the case, id trust nothing the guy says. These engines are very expensive to repair, Mr Walker was pricing a rebuild ofr me a while back.

I believe the engine pictured is an M113 block. The earlier C36's used an uprated M103 block (stronger bottom end). Yes as Simal says, prices for a rebuild come close to, if not exceed Cosworth standards. If anyone here was to buy the engine I would strongly recommend that they check it over VERY carefully before parting with the folding stuff. A compression test would be an essential check point. (the engine does not need to be fitted in a car for that)

Unfortunately, any kind of a test on the engine is out of the question as the seller is in Germany.

He doesn't even take paypal and so the limited protection afforded by that isn't even available.

I guess, if I decide to bid on it, I'll have to do so relying on the sellers honesty and in the hope that, if it needs expensive work, that I'd be able to punt it on.

I think you mean M103?
I thought all C36 engines used the same M103/4 block with the diesel crankshaft.

The block, crank and rods would be ideal for a turbo conversion.;)
Seems risky buying from Germany though. Why is it listed on UK ebay if it's in Germany?

According to Hughes, the c36 ran too high a compression ratio to boost. The con rods were not strenghten by any significant amount, so would need to be uprated.

I agree though, why has he listed it in the UK?

The C36 compression is too high but that could be taken care of with new pistons. The cams are also not ideal so you would need a 320 head.
I thought the rods were stronger but I could be wrong.

A 3.6 with the diesel crank, forged pistons and two turbos would be quite a beast.

Adrain, can you PM me your number, as I forgot to save it, we need to make a bit of progress with the turbo conversions.

Ah well! I had to go out at close of bids and so was forced to stick in a bid that got beat.

I would've really liked that too but I asked the guy a few questions and he was evasive, to say the least. He didn't answer half the questions I asked but did admit it wasn't a '97 model, claiming it to be a '95.

All told, I wouldn't have been happy gambling on it for the eventual price, though given it went to a zero feedback punter maybe that was the seller anyway.

Did it go to anyone on here?

Regardless, if anyone hears of something like this again, I'd appreciate hearing about it :)

Double post - sorry
