Hi,
I have a pre-face lift C230K as some of you know, one thing that has annoyed me about it is the fact it is so low spec. cloth seats, no A/C, no rear electric windows, etc, and as the car has 60/40 split folding rear seats (rare option apparently) and I have been looking for a black leather interior with rear headrests and 60/40 split folding rear seats since 2003 and not been able to find one.
Well I have managed to source one (accidently, as I was enquiring about a electric rear window blind) It has everything I want, now as this interior has electric seats and they are heated as well, i know I,ll need the wiring and some control units, can any one help in what else I,ll need as me and the owner will be removing the interior together and as the car is about 100 miles away I don,t want to keep going back to it.
I think I,ll put the rear electric windows in my car too so i,ll have to remove that loom as well.
Any thoughts and comments, regarding any aspect of this retro fit will be gladly recieved.

Hi Andy,

Obviously because you've owned the car for a while, you might be now attached to it. But IMHO, because it's pre-facelift, manual, no rear electric windows, cloth trim and 135k miles I'd be tempted to consider trading up to a different car?

Only reason I say this is because W202s are just such good value these days. You could probably pick up a facelift sport with leather, air con, maybe with an auto box (if preferred) and other goodies too for about £2k, and you'd probably get a grand or so back on your old one?

If you're current car is a minter, no rust etc then I could see you'd be tempted to keep her, but just a thought :)

Hi Will,
I understand your thinking Will, the car is by no means a minter but I have grown attached to it as I bought the car at 24,500 miles in 2001 (longest car I have ever owned), and have put over 100,000 miles on it, though spending the time on it is not a problem as I love working on the Merc's, especially when I,m improving it. Money is a bit different though.
I have thought about selling it but as its a low spec car (though it does have the folding seats, folding mirrors and glass sunroof, all rare apparently) I will have difficulty selling it, and I thought to myself what would I replace it with, and to be honest it does still tick all the boxes allbeit the spec low, so believing in the old addige "better the devil you know" my decision was to keep it.

Hi,

I think you'll need the rear door window lifter mechanisms as well as the motors/wiring. The Comfort Control Module is different as well (I think).
When you are removing bits I'd recommend that you take the auxillary fuse box ( the one in front of the battery under the boot floor) as the power for the electric seats comes from there and there are some "big" wires going into it.
I'd check that your seatbelt buckles will fit the new seats. Early 202s have different buckles to late facelifts.

Fair comments Andy. I appreciate that it probably had some sentimental value, hence the question.

Was just another way of looking at the possibilities, it's amazing what you can buy for so little these days.

Best of luck with the C36 interior-swap :)

Hi,
Both vehicles are the of the same age "P" plate, so are what I call facelifted pre-facelifted cars, If you understand my meaning. Though my C230K has a rear fuse box allbeit with very few fuses needed/fitted, I will take onboard your comments but intially I will try to remove the cables from the fuse box leaving the crimp on it. Did,nt NW Merc do a similar retro-fit to his early facelift?

Hi,

Another thing to watch out for: on the side of the front seats facing the door there is a plastic trim panel which covers the seat runner and the seatbelt mounting point. To remove the seat belt securing bolt you need to remove a small plastic cover in this trim panel. The person who removed mine didn't do so very carefully and broke them. Although, to be fair, they seem a bit fiddly and would probably come apart better with a bit of practice. The original parts are no longer available ( for a prefacelift car). To put things right I need to replace the whole trim panel.

Andy

Hi,
Well i,m off up to see him tomorrow to pick up the electric rear blind, parcel shelf, loom and switch, and I will try to negotiate a price for the interior complete with rear window regulaters, motors and looms, can anyone tell me if there are control units in the rear doors? I don,t think there is as these were fitted on the 97-98 facelift, but any confirmation would be good.

Andy,

The (spare) rear doors that I have from a P reg pre-facelift do not have door controllers.

Regards,
Andy

Many thanks for confirming that, could you also tell me how the rear window regulators are fitted to the door, I believe they are rivetted and need to be drilled out to remove them, can you confirm that?

Yes they are rivetted in so take a good cordless with a strong drill bit along with you.

Heres a picture of my rear window inside:
