Hi ive never changed the spark plugs on my amg as im servicing it i thought i might change the plugs aswell whats the best spark plugs to use?

Not sure of the code, but you'll need 16 of them, and from my limited time crawling around under the airbox a pair of small girly arms will probably come in useful...

Doesn't have to original MB, the equivalent Bosch ones would be just as good for example.

Bosch ones are £9.28 each genuine MB.... ask for a mb owners discount and it should bring em down to £8.35 each including VAT... but why not use MBs service checker and see if it needs doing first Mercedes-Benz ESS ?

MB original which are iridium. I guess any other iridium ones from NGK, Bosh, Denso or Champion for our v8s will also do without any problems.

I would get the bosch ones from ECP... same as the MB ones.

Oh and if you're servicing it yourself, I hope you're ready for a challenge. They aren't easy!

Hi,
As Adam when i did a spark plug change on my C43 I used Bosch plugs bought from Euro's.
Not to bad a job to do, remove the airbox completely, remove the coil packs from the rocker boxes, use a 17mm spanner to lever off the plug caps.
Olly did a plug change on a CLK430 in 22 minutes IIRC at his last GTG, but expect it to take about an hour and half to two hours.

As above. Get the Bosch plugs from Euro Car Parts.

They can be done in 22mins.........The labour time from MB is 1.8 hours.

And i have seen Olly do it in that time  :thumb: :) :D

Going to be changing my plugs soon and I understand its a "nice" job :wallbash: to do if you use the right procedure and good tools. I would appreciate knowing what is the torque figure when tightening the plugs. Yes, I know that the engine has to be cold, the heads are alu, remove the filterbox, coil packs, washer bottle, etc.
Any recommendations on the type of ignition cable to use if I decide to change them too? I have in mind some Magnecore 8.5mm KV85 cable. Have read elsewhere that the coil packs only accept 8mm cable. Can anyone shed some light on this question?
Many thanks :thumb:

In having a good Spark Plug, try to really get a good brand. I, for example uses NGK Spark Plugs, for they are known as one of the good spark plug distributors around. Also, these kinds of parts are cheap but performance-wise they are great as to compare with the OEM ones.

Hi Olly
Been a owner of a C43 since last year and have been reading some of you're threads regarding the car.

since recently the car has been misfiring it would drive as if 1 of the cylinders is not working after leaving the car for some time it would work ok. can you say what might be the problem?

Clifton
