C43 Cooling Fan Issue

I don’t know if this helps but if I have a spirited drive and drive like a granny like 5 mins sometimes the fan does run if I drive like a granny last 10 mins no fan. I think it’s just related to oil and gearbox temps.
It’s just strange, because I’ve not had it come on for months after any journey type, and now all of a sudden it’s after all journeys again. Mercedes dealer is none the wiser…

It wouldn’t bother me if it wasn’t impacting mpg, as that suggests it’s not running in the optimal way. It’s using more fuel to do something….

Sorry re read and just seen you said not temp related I have a diagnostic tool if your close to Essex and want to scan the car
I’m in south wales. Car has been to Mercedes twice and no errors codes thrown. Thanks for the offer though!

The only thing I can think of it’s a dodgy water temp sensor but no point just changing parts for the sake of it.
How “bad” is your mpg my mates c43 ain’t much better than my c63 on real driving conditions

When it has the fan ‘issue’ it’ll do 27/28 on a sensible motorway run. When it’s working properly it does 34.

Seems like quite a common issue for nobody (merc included) to be aware of a fix 😂

Did anyone get to the bottom of this? Mine hadn’t done it for the last 6 months, but has started running the fan again this week. Can’t be temperature related as it’s not remotely cold at the moment.

Did a 30 mile motorway run yesterday with no effect.
Funny you say this, fan started to run again on mine since last week! I also gave it a 120 mile round trip yesterday, still didnt resolve it, been fine for months. Swear ours are in sync with this issue

Must be an independent specialist that has seen this issue. So annoying I actually want to see you guys find a fix..

I did see on a AMG specialist Instagram something about the c63 temp sensor I can’t remember what it was about but he reckons it was a common issue let me find his Instagram maybe send him a message and see what he has to say

tasos_moschatos

He rebuilds and fixes alot of AMGS Greek guy lives in Dubai speaks English. If you don’t have Instagram I can message him and see if he has come across this issue before?

Worth a shot just to see

That would be great if you could… thanks. It seems like it’s a process the car needs to go through periodically, just wish there was a way to help it along.

I’ll let you know if mine fixes it self after not being driven for a week 😂. I plan to sell the car in a few months.

I’m tempted to get rid of mine. Stuff like this irritates me! And if it is designed behaviour for the car, it’s pretty poor that Mercedes think it’s acceptable for it to perform badly at such regular intervals.

I had this problem and the culprit was the AC pressure sensor. This can be confirmed with a diagnostics computer. Although the mechanic guessed that before plugging it in.

So 45 quid for new sensor, plus an AC recharge because the fluid falls out when the sensor comes out. Came to about 200 to fix including the diagnostic charge. So don't try this at home unless you know what you're doing with AC.

Any updates please?
I literally just got a reply this morning and it’s the same as Mezmer64 said but check with a diagnostic the fault doesn’t come up on the engine and gearbox need to scan everything

Have had the fan issue for about a month, Merc said "What is occurring is a vehicle characteristic, there may be a future recall to change this".

When I asked for the AC Sensor to be replaced as mention by Mezmer, they refused as the computer said no faults (they wouldn't show me the diagnostic report). Have it booked into a Indy Merc Approved garage at the end of the month.

Mercedes were particularly unhelpful with me as well.

Would be interested to know what the independent specialist says…

Any update on the Specialist visit? Mine went into Merc with this issue & they said nothing wrong?
It then stopped for a few months but back on again now with the erratic boosting & bad fuel consumption.

Your car still got fan issue? Ta
Hi, the Indy Merc Garage did a full diagnostic, gave the me the STAR report but couldn't find any fault. He completely agrees its not normal but thinks Merc have done something as a preventative measure. I have a recall letter on mine, fuel delivery so unlikely to be connected to the fans, booked in tomorrow. I tried living with the noise, but its so annoying.

Yeah indy check for mine Friday
Will update on here as they don't think it's normal either? My wife's got same car same mileage etc & doesn't do it?

Also to add that the indie I spoke to said they would run check whilst fan running & thought it something to do with A/C Compressor which read in this thread.
I love the car but tbh would sell it if I could! Things like this really irritate me & take the gloss off a otherwise decent motor!
