hi,
I sold my W210 E55 last week and started looking for another car and i ended up buying a C43.The cars done 118k it has a rattle whilst idling, the car had been stood for over a year so i changed the oil and the rattle had gone, but today the rattle has come back.
Any ideas as to what it can be? i will put a link of youtube video.
Many Thanks

Sounds like hydraulic lifters are a little weak. Mitsubishi do a solution oil additive that often helps those. Is it worse just after first start up....??

Hi,
As the rattle disappeared when you changed the oil I would be inclined to change the oil again, try a good quality engine flush this time, also using a variation on the oil viscosity may help as well.
As the car had been stood for a year I would have to agree regarding the hydraulic tappets being the source of the noise.

Its worse after a drive this sound is before i did an oil change.
Its went away but it came back yesterday .
The owner before me didnt do the right oil change.I was surprised to see in the service book the the main dealers she used once used 10w 40 oil.
What is the name of this additive you have mentioned.
Your help is appreciated
Thanks

Hi Andy
I used stp flush the first time and petronas 5w 40 oil.
Should i do another flish and which would you recommend.
Also i have some unused mobil 0w 40 and merc dealers 5w 40 oil from my e55 is it ok to mix oils? because i have about 3 litres.
Thanks again .I keep getting tempted to put an e55 engine.

I would call Mitsubishi and ask them for their flush that is specially for removing varnish from engine parts. IIRC Mitsubishi have a engine sharing deal with MB for the smaller engines at least. It worked on mine for a wee while. If it is the lifters normally a little noise like this is not really a problem and the varnish remover will only delay the need to replace if you want to remove the noise all together.

You may also want to wait a while to give the others a chance to comment on what worked for them...

Perfect opportunity to upgrade your engine to a 55 lump.

What miles ? Mine sounds the same , maybe not as loud - I don't tend to worry though

Good way to flush is do 1-2000 miles using DIESEL grade 0-40w oil.
The detergents in the diesel oil will gradually flush the engine.

Or do what I have done in the past. Drop a liter or two of oil and add diesel (fuel) with the engine hot. Let the engine idle for twenty minutes with the odd rev to 2000 every few of minutes. Drain oil and replace along with a new filter and then give the car a blasting.
