Hi guys I'll put up some pics in a while but I finally completed my c43,
I've had parts lying around for a while, but only got my rear blind from Germany last week , for 165 euros and about 30 emails confirming I would arrange courier to collect!!!
1. Dimming rear view mirror
Piss,
Take out dome light, ensure you can plug directly or u have wrong mirror,
Give the old one a good yank at angle, don't be scared to use force it's jus how it is
The new one is harder to put in, little tip put Vaseline all over spring before you try to push it back in
2. Illuminated visors, very straightforward once again take out dome light feed wires, from the centre out
Screw in new visors job done
3. Folding mirrors, I did not want blinking because for me personally everyone will porbably disagree they jus look to round and as if they weren't meant to be there.
I flukked a dimining drivers mirror off someone on eBay selling the set he didn't know it was dimming, got result pair for 70 quid
Loom ordered from merc
Switch had lying around
First I tested on my workbench and as said in a previous post polarity was reversed for drivers mirror to close, everything working fine, at this point I soldered the e class plugs on to my loom, green and yellow wires are for folding
Take off old mirrors
Passenger carpet drivers one just lift up headache taking it all out!
Door plastic sill
Door cards etc
Run wires through starting at centre
I realised here loom was a bit short, it maybe supposed to go to door module and from there to mirror, but I'm not doing it like that. Lol
So I found yellow and green wire and extended loom
It's just click on the mirror side your done!
There's an earth point on drivers Side under dash, which will be visible once carpet is to one side, earth done !
Used 12v lighter live for power and illumination of switch, th is probably not the correct method it should go to fuse box, I will have to do this later date, pissing down right bout now!
Job done regarding mounting the switch I'll explain at the end cheapest and easiest way to do
Rear blind
Finally I got it only taken about 2 years! I got the whole kit with shelf etc
Start from centre console run wiring, I connect in same manner as folding mirror loom, I had a 96 blind the switch for the wire is on passenger side, so I ran wire through passenger door trunking.
Got the wire upto back seats stop
Now remove base seat, piss 2 metal clips either side push em in out she comes
The hardest bit I found, removing headrest, please be careful, push plastic clips away with screw driver and keep pushing the headrest towards back window, if they've never been out before good luck! I started this job few days ago, but the headrest clip broke, I spent 3 hours pissing about lost the battle came home, next morning I thoughts about it if u break one sides clip open the other side push the rod out it will be hard because the stuck side won't let it go forward . Once out u can jiggle it about properly and should be out!
Remove seat I had split folding seats so was spared there!
Take out c pillars
Remove shelf, take your time taking out 3rd brake light wire awkward
I had to cut my original one cos the one I bought had no split seats holes, and mainly was an early velvety one, ps that's for sale if anyone wants it
I'm a carpenter by trade, this was piss.
Take out shelf
Get sharp jigsaw and Stanley knife
You will only be able to get jigsaw on 1 long cut, the other one I ran a blade down it , it was fine. There is an outline for blind on back side of shelf
However toward the ends the cut has to be made slightly wider so the ends of the blind can fit in
Nw make sure shelf is not tight round blind, u can only check this in car,
Place blind on rear deck, through the boot gently push the blind back as possible slightly do up the nuts, 10mm
Once secure place your shelf over it feeding the bulky lip of blind through slit in shelf
Very important test now! U may think gap is enough but when I compared to original shelf I had I realised gap should be at least 3-5 mm more. I tested it and blind was rubbing against bottom of shelf, remove once again, cut spec heck
Now you are happy take blind for final time
On the inside lip of blind is the groove in which a ball bearing type piece travels which will riase and lower blind, fill this up with Vaseline, get an artists brush and proper dab it in there nicely,
Put your car back together now the centre console
Luckily I had on to test first,
The best solution I have found is to use white pencil draw directly on the piece make sure your gaps are spot on once u r happy, using a small 2-2.5 drill bit drill slightly on inside of line all the way around, try and drill holes as close together as poss without the bit slipping, now ushering sharp Stanley go over outline , u should get one nice piece out take that out, methodically using a fine file workout way to edge putting in switch now and then to make sure it fits and operates and does not get stuck!,,
I'll put some pics up soon
Bless!,
