C43 - No history

No history? No thanks.

Shame though as it looks like a nice car.

I wouldn't let no history put me off if the rest of the car seemed true. Rightly or wrongly I don't know. Obviously more prefreable with history but I wouldn't dismiss it totally.

Well yes , and no ...

You might get away with it with a normal 202 , but C43's can be fragile beasts , gearboxes go , brakes and pads can be expensive , as can tyres , servicing , and loads of other stuff that could go wrong if it hadn't been looked after properly ...

For a C43 , i'd want to make sure it had the best chance of being a good 'un. Don't get me wrong , i'd take a chance at half the start price with no history , but not £4k +

History lost while moving house

I agree with a high performance car but in more general, especially older model cars, etc etc. Seems to be a lot lost in house moves, but I bet there is one that is genuine! :D:)

Got a nice Rolex here Gina , you could buy it for your boyfriend for Christmas ...

I lost the reciept and box in my last house move though ..... ;)

:D But that suggests the Rolex is a fake, I don't think we are suggesting that the C43 is a fake surely?

He has MOTs, seems honest enough. The buyer is forewarned what is the risk? If it has lacked for maintenance an inspection would show that up, inky stamps in a service book mean nothing, nor does the lack of them, without further investigation into the reality in either case.

The Sprinter I bought had no history (ie. stamped book from the seller). I called Ryder who had owned it from new and they gave me the run-down. They sent also sent me a book that looked like an 6 yr-old had written in it but I know that the vehicle has been looked after mechanically (not because of the book but because I spoke to the guy who had serviced it;) ).

It's too high a price for a vehicle with no history is basically what i am trying to get across.

Sprinters are designed to be abused and not looked after ( ask Nick_Mercedes ) , C43's are not. Being that a lot of AMG specific parts are so expensive , would you want to take the risk of having a big outlay soon after buying the car ?

Would an inspection show whether the gearbox oil has been changed ? Do they take the plugs out and look at them ? Would you hire Magnum to track down all the previous owners and ask them what it had done to it ?

Price needs to reflect the lack of history then Caveat Emptor...

it's a low mileage car, the seller may or may not be telling the truth about the history but he's happy to let you drive it before you make any decisions

it's also a lot of car for 4K

4k seems a bit hight, the MOT's show the mileage should be genuine. If it had been serviced at a MB dealer could you not phone MB customer services and verify when it was serviced and where(I know you can do this with BMW's)

The car is located in Watford so there must be some decent indie's that could give it a full inspection, shouldn't be more than an hours labour or travelling expenses, should be between £1-200. Visible stuff, like condition of tyres, brakes, interior should give an indication of how it's been kept.

Even with all the above, 4k still seems a bit high. Don't beleive the "wait a couple of years untill it becomes collectable" either! Not likely for a car with no history!

But does is need a rear lip spoiler??

The seller has 100% feedback rating and seems to have no oblections to people veiwing/inspecting the car before bidding so if i was in the market for a sub £5000 C43 i would not let the lack of history put me off.The car looks like it has the potential to make a nice one and if you were to ring around some merc dealers or contact previous owners the history may be able to be traced.

When you compare it to this one it looks good value

Yeah , that damaged one was madness ...

I wonder if the buyer completed the deal when he realised what he'd done

I think there is a degree of psychological blindness when it comes to damaged cars as people seem to think if its damaged it must be cheap.By the time you have bought parts and had them repaired they usually cost as much or sometimes more than a straight one but have the disadvantage of being recorded on V car.

I would much rather have a straight car with no history even if it had been clocked than a damaged one with history as at least i would know that mercedes was responsible for the geometry and not some DIY bodyman.

Cat C and no V5, that says a big Steer Clear to me!!

The first C43 is a risk with no history, but if you want one sub 5K what are you going to get?

I just checked the buyers feedback, he's also bought a 190 2.6 and a 420SE (both low miles and no MOT) in the past two weeks - possibly in the trade.

Yeah seems like a buy it, do it up, sell it on, jobbie.

Bought the 420 with no pics and minimal info.
