C63 in my price-range!

Hi mate, recently been in a similar situation for a car search, after driving a number of C63's and CLS55's, I loved them both, but found the cheaper C63's hadn't been looked after very well (may be just the ones I viewed?!) and for me the 20K ish ones were the only ones what were worth getting (condition / mileage / S/H), but you might be lucky and get a good one for less.
Only decided on the CLS55 in the end because the right one turned up, and obviously cheaper to buy / cheaper tax.

I’d definitely consider a CLS55 as I think they look amazing. There was a maroon coloured one for sale on here (I think) that was stunning.

I’ll definitely look into E63’s. I fear I’d have quite a limited choice in my price-range though. The other issue I have with an E-Class is that I need my car to fit in a single garage. My Brother-in-Law has a W212 Estate so I’m going to do a test!
Garages are a bit like car parking spaces, they haven't changed much in size since the original mini was being built!

My Forester fits with space to spare so we will see! Fingers crossed.

The E63 fits fine in a standard garage. Not sure about the estate version, I think its a bit longer than the saloon. As Phil said, the E is a much more rounded car than the C. Much better and planted chassis, especially so on fast flowing bends in Sport mode. Obviously more room and most passengers comment about the comfort and relaxed ability to cover ground very quickly. Mine is a work horse and carries all my kit hidden away in the boot, traveling to venues in Central London and all over the country - so a combination of in town rush hour traffic, and high speed cross-country routes. It's covered just over 72000 miles and in that time has averaged 22.8mpg

It's my fifth AMG and prior to that I had three Scoobies, the last a 300bhp Litchfield T25. My first AMG was a C55, then an E55 and now the E63. I also have had two SLK55s both of which provide a different type of motoring (primarily open top). I think its fair to say that in their day the Scoobies were out of this world in terms of performance and handling, but they just dont compare with the E class AMGs. And certainly I never got anywhere near an average of 22.8 in them !! :)

Now that you guys have got me looking at E63's, I suddenly want a S211 E63 [as I suspect 212's will remain out of budget for a while]!

I'm betting an S211 E63 is a pretty rare car though?!

^ Not too many wagons in either 55 or 63 guise compared to saloons.

What is your budget?

I accept that the E-Class is a big car, but if you’ve ever driven a W212 E63 you will know that it has a strange ability to “shrink” when you’re pressing on. The chassis is a country mile better than the W204.
I totally agree, and I've owned a W204 C63 and a W212 E63.

Budget would be £17k max for a C63 but I wouldn't want to spend that on an older E63/55. Think I'd be more happy at £14/15k for a minter.

I'd what something with as low miles as possible, to maximise its selling potential in the future [a couple on that list have low miles]. Obviously FSH/proof of it being well looked after is the most important though.

People selling such specialist cars should really go to town with their adverts. That one with 59k miles might be ideal but the advert is very underwhelming. I want to know every detail, prove to me how much care your car has had [maybe it's just me]?!

Unfortunately I'm not in a position to save. If I suddenly had an extra £5k that would be going on the house or savings for future baby plans :)

Must say that C63 looks great, love the interior, got all the goodies, and low milage.
:D

It does look good. I think I like the rims too! I've briefly spoke to the owner [over DM] as I noticed he's only had the car for a short time - which he said was the plan, while he waited for a new car to be built/delivered. Thing is, I think he's struggling to get any interest so may have to take a big hit. Not sure a C63 is wise thing to buy if you're only planning to own it for a short while!!!

With the W211s decide what options you want on the car and use that to narrow it down as there can be quite a few on the market at a time.
14/15K is top of the market for one and you shouldn't accept anything but the best at that price IMO.

This one has been for sale for ages. It came up in my search in April and was up at £12495 so has only dropped £500 since (there are others still on the market from back then too but have had more substantial reductions).
Looking at the MOT history doesn't make for great reading. It was on 89K in August 2016 and has done almost no miles since. Untaxed since March 2017 too. I didn't even go to look at it because of the that alone.

I looked at THIS at 14K. It was the second one I looked at and had the options I wanted.
By the time I had looked at a couple of others to guage the market it had sold, someone walked in and paid the asking price.

I ended up with a CLS63 of the same vintage which came with a folder full of history and invoices showing it had been well cared for.
The seller was after a quick sale as his new car, a generation newer CLS63 Shooting Brake, had arrived and we agreed a price we were both happy with at £12K.

I’d up the budget for a facelift 204, there’s some nice examples with PP not far off that budget for sale in the group. That or a 212 E63 facelift because let’s face it, the front lights on the prefacelift 212 are hideous!

Absolutely 100% do not agree about the headlights on the pre-facelift 212. :p

Don’t worry Abs, they look nicer than the rear lights on an S65 saloon!

Oi! 212 preface-lift (last of the era) split lights are fine. S65 rear light are fine. Something with your eyes!11!!111!

A few of those W211 E63 examples I posted above were only to highlight the fact that there are some available, which isn't always the case.
Myself, I wouldn't consider a single one of them when you can, with a couple of grand extra get into a far better W212 model.

If I had £17.5k ish to spend on a performance estate right now, I'd be trying to convince the new owner of E55BOFs recently sold blue E63 Biturbo with completely rebuilt engine to sell it to me. Ex E55bof e63 for sale.
That is a lot of car for the money.
