hi guys im getting my 2013 C63 mapped next week and want to add the pops and bangs map to it.

Someone mentioned ideally you need one of the cats out the exhaust for this.

How many cats does the C63 exhaust have and what one needs to be removed for the map?

I have a fairly loud sports exhaust that came with the car but not sure if it has some/all the cats yet until i have it on a ramp.

Just wanted to plan ahead and find out about the above please.

Lastly what is best to remove whatever cat needs to be removed please?

Thanks a lot

The car has 4 Cats.......2 Primaries closest to the manifold with the O2 sensors screwed in to them and 2 secondaries with a resonator further back.
The secondary cats can be removed along with the resonator but you'll have a pretty loud car. Keep the resonator if you want it quieter.
Don't remove the primary cats or the EML will have to be coded out (no O2 sensor reading).

Where are you having the remap?

Ok thanks mate. My friend tried to look under car today on the drive and said looked like 2 cats near engine and 2 more towards back so prob has them still.

Wierd as its loud already and i assumed a sports exhaust would remove some cats.

So u can remove secondary cats but leave resonator in?

Where can u buy the pipe to remove secondary cats please?

Do you definitely need to remove these if you have pops/bangs map?

Will it still pass mot ok with secondary ones removed?

Thanks again

Pops and bangs map is asking for trouble, I'd steer clear.

It's known to run rough and is a waste of fuel as it's literally dumping globs in a hot exhaust just to make silly noises. The car burbles and gurgles a lot as standard but you don't realise due to the sound deadening. Sometimes I go for a drive with the boot cracked open (estate) just to get the full effect.

Yes you can

A good exhaust fabricator should be able to make up either a straight pipe or x-pipe to replace.
Torqueflow did mine and they work out of MSL's tuning centre in Birmingham

I don't know. This may be just down to the map. Acid at MSL could tell you.

I haven't heard of any car failing since I had mine done in 2014 although technically it is an MOT fail. Presently they are just checking emissions, not counting cats.

I would agree with this. Certainly wouldn't have it done on any car of mine.

There's plenty of chat about it on the Facebook C63 group. Very recently a lad went for the silly map and then reverted back as it made his fuel economy beyond a joke plus it ran rough.

If it’s done properly then it’s fine if that is what you want. You just need a reputable Remapping company like MSL / BFT to advise you. It suits some cars more than others, not sure on the C63, but you can ask that when you contact the remap company. Fully decatting adds to the effect in pops and bangs, quite a few newer cars already pop, bang and crackle as standard.

I think the standard rumble you get when you lift off is more than enough that a good remap gives you.
If your constantly popping and banging all you are doing is causing loads of back pressure.
Makes me giggle when you see people with turbo cars wanting the pop and bang like a rallycar where the whole purpose is to create back pressure to keep the boost up......standard cars doing this equals destroyed turbo after a while.

I wont advice the pops and bangs on the W204 C63 if you still have primary cats. The primary cats are so restrictive which means the map has to create so much overrun to dump fuel to create the pops and bangs. End result is a very unstable and jerky drive when pushing the car or driving spiritedly. Almost undriveable.

Someone on the facebook C63 AMG UK group did this in MSL, tried the map on MSL owns private quarter mile strip and then turn back and have the map reverted to MSL map, without the pops and bangs as it was literally so uncomfortable to drive.

You can get a really agressive big blip coded in on downchanges, if you get it remapped.

That's a awesome sound when you want it. Fake pops and farts are more for the VAG four pot brigade.

Wait, I thought the secondaries were towards the engine and primaries at the back?

Only reason for clarification is I’m about to have (what I thought) secondaries removed which I assumed were at the front... I’m after the ‘quieter’ option up from standard, is that secondary or primary removal? Slightly louder than standard but keeping the OEM sound

Nope. The primary cats are nearer the engine, the secondary cats are next followed by the resonator:)
If you take out the primary cats you may get an EML which has to be mapped out.

Remove the secondaries for a louder exhaust but leave the resonator in. Take that out and it will be loud:D

Ah I had them mixed round! It’ll be going to MSL so I know the right ones will be done :D
