First of all thanks for everyone's help, this is a great forum for a newbie like me.
.
Does the C 63 require a service after 1000 miles?
.
What are the average costs of the intermediate and main services?
.
Are the monthly service plans good value when i will only be doing
6000 miles per annum?
.
Is the harman kardon worth ordering?

Thanks guys, my order goes in today for November delivery and i want to get it right!

Don't know about your other questions, but if you're an audiophile, get the Harmon Kardon because if the W204 standard audio is anything like the W212 then it's pants.

If the HK is like that in the C55 don't bother.

Suggest you ask the dealer if there is one you can listen to. Always the best way with hi-fi.

Hi the c63 needs a service every year or 15500 miles.
A serice approx £200 - £250
B service approx £350 - £450
If you have the lsd that requires a oil change at approx 2k miles.
Monthly service plans no idea i just pay when a service is required.
The hk audio does sound better that the standard fitment.

Thanks for your answers. The dealer intimated to me that an oil change is required after the initial 1000 mile run in period. I had never heard of this and I reckon he must have got hold of the wrong end of the stick:dk:

An oil change after the first 1,000 miles is not unusual, was standard practice years ago, not sure if it's changed recently, but I would do it best to give the engine a good start in life.

the documentation on the AMG models i was shown has it down as 12500 miles, and the service costs you give are on the low side, i was shown the costs of services and the A is more like 400-450 and the B around £750

Yes indeed, I can remember those days. I guess that because of the handbuilt nature of the engine, there is a chance that some swarf would become detached and changing the oil makes good sense.

Mine is in for a B now, £375 without brake fluid change (which was circa £60).

LSD Oily change was about £90.

HK is better than standard, whether worth the money? debatable.

As for service plans, when I looked they were a lot more money - and remember they run for 3 years so sometimes you can miss out on the third service so you lose out bigtime. On your mileage I doubt it would be of benefit.

Thanks for that. I have got quotes for £250 for A and £375 for B so it looks like the £40 a month for the service plan is a bit of a rip off!! Decided to go HK, thanks anyway.

my servicing costs were

A £180 + oil
B £330 + oil but they did it FOC :D
A2 is on tuesday im expecting £550 +

HK is good but

you will likely be listening to the exhaust note more often than not:D
also because of the exhaust note and low profile tyres you probably need the HK - it generally needs to be played loud to mask the road/exhaust noise

servicing plan wasnt available in 2010 so cant comment

Wow, the servicing is fairly reasonable on them then. I've just spent £430 on an A5 service on a C220CDI. Which as far as I can tell was a £200 ish A service, with Fuel filter, air filter and brake fluid change extra.

2000 mile jobby is only an oil change on the LSD for cars fitted with it. This is FREE. After that it's pretty much what you see above. No need for a 1000 mile oil change, although mine used a lot of oil in the first 1000 and needed a litre

The monthly service plan thing seems a bit of a rip off to me, unless you think service prices will double over the next year or two. Look at it for what it is - an insurance product - then move swiftly on...

Oh and the HK is a pretty good system, altho not as good as the optional systems you can get in Jaguars and Astons.

HK is very worthwhile if you use higher volume settings. The standard unit is poor in this regard, but acceptable if you just listen to the radio at 'normal' volumes. At the upper end it lacks very noticably.

Hi mika hope you are well what were you charged for the a2 service and what work was carried out ?

Sent from my iPad using MBClub UK

With the servicing plans they include all the replacement parts (Cabin filter, Fuel/Oil filters etc) I actually went for the £20 per month one on the 250 (Not sure if it was a good idea or not?)

My past SLK used to annoy me for servicing when you asked how much for the service and found it didn't actually include anything other than basically an oil change and inspection.

Are you replacing the extra parts according to MB schedule or are they included in the cost you are quoting?

If you have the LSD fitted you get a free oil change on the LSD at 1000 miles.

HK definitely worth it, have it in my ML, have it in my e350 convertible and ordered it in my c63 coupe.

J.

As for the costs of the service I have no idea but the second service on my convertible is £350 so I would imagine the costs are more for the AMG...

I'll let you know tomorrow when I drop it in for a service as I will ask.

J.
