Hi

new C63 owner, love the v8 noise but the standard stereo in it is a bit rubbish

has anyone just upgraded the front speakers to something like Morel/Focal?

does it need a separate amp or can you run from the stock merc head unit without any issues?

Also thought the DAB isn't that reliable either, cuts often? Is this normal?

thanks

DAB is crap in these.

Speakers I thought Harman Kardon is standard?

You can upgrade the front speakers but don't expect much of a change if running from stock unit. Maybe a bit extra clarity.

To connect an separate amp, you will need to install a sound processor after the headunit, like Audison bit one or Bit ten, Audiocontrol LC6i etc. This allows you to strip away the sound-shaping limitations enforced by your factory stereo and sends a clean signal to your external amplifiers. The amps send the signal to your speakers and subs.

What are factory sound processors?

A summary of the above.
Hope this helps.

Harmon was an option and not many have it, when I was looking only 2 black coupes for sale had it

Oh right I assumed it was. I've got HK and it's decent. Not as good as BMW offerings mind you.

Hk is fine in terms of quality but i often mind myself wanting more volume.

That was an interesting article. I guess it depends how important the quality of the sound is to you in your car. I didn't give this much thought previously. I've got the HK speakers in mine but I guess this only helps to a limited extent. For the purist the sound processor would still not be adequate since you are taking a sound input which is dumbed down from sound shaping and is then reshaped to improve its definition.

So there are different levels depends on how extreme you want:
1) upgrade speaker
2) upgrade amplifier
3) invest in a sound processor
4) change the whole system from source

I had a sub woofer fitted into my boot, the guy who fitted it ,explained to me that the speakers in the car arnt that bad, there's just no base in them, the sub woofer makes a hell of a difference, I'm selling mine if ur interested

Which sub do you have?
Cheers

I could have lived with the HK system but the standard one is pretty bad

Just adding a subwoofer I don't think is enough

First car I viewed just had the standard system and the salesman tried to tell me it was as good as the HK I don't think so it sounded crap

I had an SQ5 last year and the stereo was sublime!

Hi there.
How did you get on with your SQ5? I've always liked them and might consider one next time. Any thoughts, opinions etc???
Cheers :)

Absolutely loved it. Bought it brand new put 1800 miles on it but sold it back to Audi as I got made redundant and it was on finance :(

Great economy, huge amount of torque, fast, comfortable. Sublime car!

Great! Thanks for the reply. Does it feel like you're driving an SUV or more of a car? I took one out briefly when they first came out years ago but can't really remember much. Is it 'wallowy' or does the sporty set-up help with that? Do they have run flats?
Not sure whether to buy used or go the finance route either??? haven't had a used car for many years now. I'm also aware that a new model/facelift could be imminent.
I'm not due for a change for about another year but I will start looking and test driving towards the end of this year in case I need to order something. I'll have plenty of fun testing out various other vehicles though :)
