merc 220 cdi manual
I own a c class 220 CDI the 202 model vintage 2000 all the time ive owned the car I havent been able to make the seperate interior heater work it says in the manual it is automatic at temperatures below 8degrees with a coolant temp less than 70 is their a fuel shut off or switch other than the one on the console any body out their with any ideas thanks Ernie.

hi arther
the heater you refer to sounds like the heater booster, runs off diesel fires up at temps 8deg to warm coolant which warms heater sooner than a diesel would normaly do, the switch at the gear/ selector is the one to switch off. hope that helps,..

There is an electrical booster heater to help warm the coolant in temps below 8C. This is auto or manual or off. On my car it is selected from the cluster menu. There is no adjustment it's either on or off. This is only on diesel cars.
An option on some cars is the residual heating system that draws heat from the hot coolant to help maintain the cabin temp for approx 30min after engine switch off.
Another option is the Westabo type heater, a totally separate heater that can be set to fire up to defrost the car. It draw fuel from the car's tank and it resides in the front wing area.

Heater Booster Location CDI C220 1998

Does anybody know where heater booster is located in C220 CDI 1998?

Are you aware that when the light is on the heater is off.
Seems weird to me and I believe they changed it to light on heater on for the later models.

Still could not find heater booster

There is a fuse No.37 it says "heater booster". I hope this is an electric coolant heater. But I could not find it anywere. could it be somewhere in cabin? Somebody has to know where exactly it is located.

Maybe "heater booster" is called a cabin heater when the engine is switched off. It uses engine heat to heat the cabin. But I believe it is not called "heater booster".

heater boost

W202 has a heater boost facility, the switch is lit when off (behind gear lever). They boost the water temp through a diesel burner. They are notoriously unreliable and have been known to catch fire. Similar units are used on vw & throughout commercial vehicles, i can't remember the make exactly but it's something like eberspacker. I recently repaired one for a ford galaxy which was almost identical to the merc version. Mine doesn't work on my W202 and i'm happy to keep it that way !!

The heater booster in my w209 is an electrical device that only operates below 8 degrees C. I have never witnessed it working so far this year as weather has been too mild. They are located on the engine block and are fed with large wires due to their high current consumption. Wouldn't be suprised if its burnt out for this winter and Alex then ends up fixing it.

we should close this thread

Thank you all for replies. If anybody has the same problem like me, just take out heater booster fuses. They ate my battery :)
