My wifes car(C200K ,52K miles) has developed a rattle from the camshaft actuator, If I unplug the wiring to the magnet it stops ,so pretty sure it's that. Question is do I get it repaired at £800 + or will leaving it cause major problems in the future.
Also discovered the oil in the loom problem at the same time, will fit modified part this week and check ECU.
Thanks in advance

It can be left too. It will do no damage but is very annoying and It will get louder.

Approx £400 for parts and 4 hrs labour ? The oil in the loom is scaring me as well now

I take it thats a dealer?

The parts are £400.

Oil in the loom is not good. Some cars get symptoms. Some don't.

A new loom is the ideal solution with the modified section fitted.

Would someone be good enough to tell me where the cam shaft magnet is located and the position of the wiring to unplug - I have a similar rattle

It is at the front of the engine under a small plastic cover at the end of the camshaft.

Yes,it's located under plastic cover at front of rocker cover, it's round and brass coloured with electrical plug to it.

Yes , £800 approx is main dealer quote

Anymore view's on whether to leave rattle or or fix ? thanks once again

They do annoy me when they rattle and it's not really very MB is it!

Checked the wiring back to the ECU from the cam cover and there is oil in the ECU, gutted. Removed unit and cleaned using carb cleaner and left to dry, modified loom has been ordered from Mercedes but they are out of stock though should be here later in the week.Should I change the magnet as well ?

Has anybody got an opinion regards the cam actuator rattle, fix or leave. It's at approx 1500 revs both going up and coming down. Thanks again.

Fix.
