Can’t believe I’m asking this, but who am I insured with?

I can’t find any details, yet the database indicates the car is insured. Any ideas how I can find out?

You surely must have an e-mail or some form of paper correspondence from you insurer ???

Have a look on your bank statement for a direct debit or the annual payment and who it was made to.

You could always have an accident and when the police turn up i am sure they could access the MID at a higher level than the average driver to find out who provides your cover.

MID says the car is insured, but I can’t find any details at all. I know I changed insurers, but I’m baffled. As you say, I must have some for, of document, but I’ll be buggered if I can find them.

It should show what date the insurance is valid to. Check your emails from same date previous years (search "insurance"). That's what I did when I forgot who I was insured with ;)

I am fairly certain that you can't find who a car is insured with via MID.

You can for £10, however it does appear to be the section for those checking the details after an accident?

If the registration is found on the Navigate, you will receive on screen the insurance details: policy number, name of insurer and the claims contact details to help you progress a claim.

Don't worry, you are not the only one. In these days of apps you only get a receipt for payment which may not even mention insurance. I had the same recently and only tracked it down due to finding a world pay email in my spam box.

Ah. I’ve not checked spam

Follow the money. Bank accounts will show who you are paying or paid, unless you paid a bloke in the pub with cash (or a certain Facebook 'broker')

Which, or course, is why email SPAM is called SPAM in the first place.

I’ve found it!

So my wife phoned LV and they picked up my insurance details rather than hers. The confusion was that I had moved to a new broker and LV confused mt account with hers. They’ve sent her documents again.

I’ve printed them out and filed!

As others stated - check your bank accounts and you will get the answer.
When I buy car or any insurance, not only do I make sure the insurance people take the money but I also keep an eye on
the possibility if the money has been returned. It's never happened to me but I've watched tv progs where someone took out insurance for a car etc and for whatever reason the ins co felt they did not want their business and returned their money, so no insurance. Yes, people do miss emails/letters and letters get lost

We, ie Mrs and me left work as the age of 55 and since that time our cc and debit cars are in a joint account and we have the apps - I often forget if we've taken our car insurance, rental property ins, our home ins, white goods ins, tv ins etc etc and its easy to just look back a couple of years - we also have CH ins. Like you I too often forget who ins is with and I only ins through people who will send me a hard copy - there was one for the tv, the 6 year warranty that would not send out a hard copy so our son printed it off for me.

White goods and TV insurance, I didn’t know people still did that.

We do - without fail, the washing machine and fridge/freezer will break d within 5 years - its bought for peace of mind and not having to worry about cowboys trying to rip you off, We have two large fridge freezers and one of them now 12 years old, a 6 foot tall black FF that fits like a glove into the new kitchen we had done 12 years ago, has broken down 3 times, once within the 5 years then later on. To get another FF of exactly the same dimensions ie height, width and depth is near impossible, so we still have that ins wiownth BG along with the other FF and combi. As I said its for peace of mind and if it breaks down, then you will hopefully get it fixed without being charged a massive and unnecessary bill.
