Can I use 5W 30 instead of 0W 40 for an E500?

Hi, on the last day of having a company fuel card I bought a sumpfull of Mobil 1 synthetic oil. The only problem was that they were out of stock of the 0W40 I normally use and could only supply me with 5W30.

The handbook seems to indicate I should be OK with it.

Does anyone have a definitive answer?

If it meets the correct MB approval and is mentioned as suitable in the hand book it will be fine. If you were living in a very hot climate [ THE GULF STATES] and driving the car to its limits the --W40 bit might make a difference but in the UK it will be fine.

Mercedes while servicing my car have always used 5w-30 from new . It will be fine !
