Can not wait until the weather changes

Since getting my C63 over 4 weeks ago, the weather has not been good enough for my to lavish some care and attention. Over the last 4 weeks I have bought fresh snow foam, wax, sealant paint correction polish, new clay bars, polishing pads for my DA and the portable blow dryer as seen on this form.

I have been so sad that I have also made a list of the 25 stages I need to go through just for the outside.

I looked at wrapping the window trim and the front LED surrounds and decided after getting some 3M wrap to give it a go myself.

I can not wait for the weather to change to get started and get the car looking bob on. Between kids and being away, the wife has been warned, Easter BH for 2 days in my time.

Roll on spring:). I will share some pics once finished, but only 4 more weeks to go.

looking for pictures from such detailed job. one time i remember it took me 12hrs just inside and i enjoyed it a lot :P

I took the opportunity to clean my E Class on Saturday morning. Snowing like hell on Friday, commuted home and expected to hibernate for the weekend.

Saturday morning came, 80% of the snow was gone so I cracked on and washed the car haha. Wasn't exactly toasty but got the job done. Can't wait for the better weather though, just so it's not so bloody cold when you have wet hands haha.

Picked my new E63s last night, very excited too :D
I too am awaiting the better weather to get goin on my new toy. I was asked during the purchase process, did I want it prepared - errr, no thanks!
“I can get it polished for you?” Errr, no thanks! The valeters apparently only get paid £25 to mop the motor, I don’t think they would be lavishing much TLC for £25 do you!? Bring on the Spring :)

I wear latex gloves with a thermal lining when the weather is really cold. Obviously the ones with full latex coverage over the back of the hands work best. Be careful not to wring out your microfibre drying cloth too tightly as this can stretch out and compromise the latex covering. A snug fitting glove gives the best "feel" but going too tight will give you cold hands. Gloves are sized by number which correspond to the width in centimetres across the widest part of your palm. These Wonder Grip WG-338 gloves are my current cold weather favourites:

Skytec Argon Thermal Grips are also a contender with slightly better insulation and available from Screwfix but don't have full latex coverage for the back of the hand. I slip disposable nitrile gloves over them to make them totally waterproof.

And now here's Red Ken minutes before I decided to "get on the buckets"

I managed to get in to work on Sunday to wash mine as the weather had cleared.

It was so nice being able to take my time and soap ALL the nooks and crannies with a PH neutral detergent to get the salt off the car, i must have have soaped and pressure washed the car four times before i went over it first with with a noodle microfibre mit and then a softer mit.

I then gave it another good soaping with the pressure washer went around with a clay mit, soaped and pressure washed again.

Then applied a coat of simoniz wax and then a coat of Bilt hamber added protection and shine, applied tyre shine and spray wax for the alloys ( i know but it's cheap and works )

I gave the inside a good vacuum, then cleaned and conditioned the leather, it was abosolute uninterupted bliss before the wife text me it was time to come home. :(

I didn't to get do the full detail i wanted to or spend any time going over the engine bay with a toothbrush but if felt so nice on the way home after a week snow/slush and other nasties atatcking the car.

I have to say i brought a cheap little vax pressure washer for work at the Screwfix exhibition last year and for cars it's spot with good pressure. I may need to order the snow foam attachment and i don't know how long it will last but it's OK :). It's not my Karcher K4 i bought the year before but it was the first time i used it and i wish i bought another to tuck away.

Thanks for the link to the gloves, I may in vest in a pair of those even if it's for once the car has been washed and I'm on to drying. Using the grit guard I suspect I'll end up soaking the elasticated but whilst doing the wash part. :)

Then applied a coat of Simoniz wax

Is that the Simoniz Gold wax in a tin? That stuff really does have some longevity to it I must admit. I have a tin at home and although it's really oily so not the easiest, a coat beads for a good 6 months.

It is this one Simoniz Original Car Wax 150g.

My dad made me use it when i was 8 (old habits i guess) so that's a good 26 years.

It is hard work to get good results and buff to a shine but like you say it last for ages and beads brilliantly. I do however only use when i have given the car a good good clean as your have to really work the stuff in sometimes and i'm always petrified i have missed a piece of grit that'll scratch the paintwork lol.

Never thought I would say that I love rain, it got here just in time to get rid of the snow.

Proper old school for you then. I picked up a tin probably back in 2010 just to see what it was like and it was hard work but the longevity was impressive. I don't think I've used it since but with the likes of Collinite 845 being easier to apply and as long lasting, I think I stuck with that. By contrast as well, with the likes of Dodo Juice Supernatural being so easy to apply and buff (albeit a lot more pricey) it goes to show how products have moved on since you started using Simoniz haha :)

It's true, i think i'm a bit of a glutten for punishment and guess i kind of like the hard work as it's really satisfying when it's been worked into every crevice but i do wonder why i keep using it especially as i always give it a second wax with something else like Bilt hamber Double speed wax i'd probably be better of just using that twice lol.

I want to try the collinite and dodo juice black widow but i have so many waxes and glazes i have accumulated over the years i really should be using them up or hiding them at work so the missus doesn't see them.

If you compliment your Grit Guard with a Grit Guard Washboard there is no need to go elbow deep in the rinse bucket to clean out your wash mitt.

Aah yes I have seen those. I need to invest in a couple of new buckets at some point. I see Halfords have the Meguiars detailing buckets for about £8 so will probably pick up a couple of those. I've been using builders rubble buckets for years, purely as they hold a shed load of water. In the colder months I fill them with mostly hot water anyway.

Waiting for the weather to improve, itching to get out there...

Well it looks like the weather is here tomorrow. Inside completed today between the showers, tomorrow 26 step cleaning going ahead:) OCD calling

Done at last. Paint is really good so did not have to worry about paint correct, just a light polish to remove some swirl marks.

Around 6 hours work and pretty pleased wit the results and just in time
