Winter Oil service

I'm changing mine tomorrow... from underneath. It's a warranty requirement after fitting a new turbo and before I start the engine . It's going to be 2 degrees tomorrow here ...but with the wind chill it will feel like minus 3 and I'll be in the shade...should be fun!

Good luck. Out of interest, you said its a "warranty requirement" and you will do this in the cold. How will the warranty people know if you changed your oil via sump or not and where is this stipulated in your warranty, please? Thanks in advance

Can't help wondering now if your rational of not using a pump and always using the sump drain seems flawed as your turbo has gone (normally oil starvation) and none of my cars (all oil out via them pump) have ever needed a Turbo replacement............:D

Good luck out there tommorow though. It's chilly AF

I'd be more concerned about the stop/start making the oil pump work its Tits off ? Spinning Working/Spinning Working.
Think about it Gents???

Out of interest, anyone going to MB in the near future, please ask what those over-priced places do as I just assume oil was drained via plug on sump.
I’ll be at a main dealer tomorrow. I’ll try to remember to ask.

Lol.... no, I meant an oil change is required... they don't specify how!

Only had the car about 2 months.... no idea how the oil was changed befire. But it looks like something went through the turbo looking at the blades..possibly a piece of the orange seal. See my "blown turbo" thread.

Nothing to do with MB's more to do with poor design and a USA company trying to sell modified sumps to DuraMax owners. Bit of an eye opener for owners of those trucks.

I use the good old pela extraction pump, works a treat. I also use it to suck some out of the oil filter housing and found by doing this I get pretty much all the oil out. I can tell I have got it all out by how quickly the new oil turns black after running the car for a while. If I get it all out it stays fairly clear for a while, if not, it turns black within a few days. Learnt this from experience.

I change the oil every 5-6K (usually every 6 months) I do one change my self and one at my local Merc indy to keep the service record. They always remove the sump to do the change...

Good evening. Did you remember to ask and if so, were they using the sucker or what ALFAitalia was supposed to be doing today?
Thanks.

I asked 2 main dealers approx 10 years ago and they were both sucking the oil out back then.

Recommend you re fill your oil filter housing with new oil before adding the oil filter, That oil is there to feed the turbo and cams probably, direct from start . The housing contains a non return valve that keeps some oil up top at all times.

My car wasn’t ready to collect, so likely to be Monday now. I will try to remember though 👍🏻

I did an interim oil change 5k ago using an electric pump bought from lidl around 8 years ago for less than £20. I did have a pela but the faffing around into another container was a pain as the pela only took 6l and my car takes 8.5l. I have a 10l jerry (gerry?) can which makes the job simple. Been doing this for nearly 9 year now in between indy servicing, I always stick the tube down the filter housing and refill with oil before fitting new filter. Car is currently on 203k

They are only £12 now... cheaper than 8 years ago...maybe the old ones were better and had a faster flow rate than the slow 0.2 litre per minute current ones?
