can the gearbox oil be replaced?

Jay, do you have access to a ramp? Can't think how else you would have done it without a lot of fuss.

By the way, if I manage to get my car on a ramp, what parts will I need to do this job and what type/quantity of tramsmission oil will I need to get? 1999 C280 by the way.

And, if anyone wants to do it for me and is around Woking/Guildford etc, I do a great bacon sandwich and coffee for free :bannana:

I did my 124 about a yr ago, IIRC, the oil and the filter came to around 24 quid and took me about 40 mins to do the whole job. £200 is a lot of money to change oil!

And now you know why we like W124's :bannana: :bannana: :bannana:

Jay, can I use your ramp?

Seriously, looks like a trip to the dealer for this one then :(

Jonathan, Jay has a ramp, I have a ramp. You are welcome to use mine if you like, you only need to ask. I also have the dipstick and have done this job before so I can help you.

Thanks Jimmy, I'll take you up on that. Can do it on my way to Telford early one Monday morning if that's a possibility with you!

Now, what do I need to bring with me?

Oil, type and how much?
Is there a gearbox filter?
Any gaskets or seals?
Special tools?

Having my tailgate replaced this week under warranty by the way :)

Cheers

Jonathan

If the oild has been changed will a dealer be able to tell that it has been done? I have a possible fault with my gearbox that the star report showed up. Basically I want to protect the box but dont want the warranty company to say the gearbox has been tampered with. BTW: MB said they cant do a warranty claim until the fault shows up again

@ Jonathan,

I can't really do mornings. It would have to be an evening or weekend.

You will need:

MB ATF fluid. 8 Litres should be enough.
Gearbox filter.
Gearbox sump gasket/seal.
Tamper evident seal for dipstick (not essential but finishes the job off)
