Car Covers

The Imperial Red MB has to sit outside until a vintage car restoration is completed (if ever at the present rate of progress) I am told that this colour is prone to fading and bleaching -the car is currently immaculate. What would be the best cover for it? A few years ago, I bought a car cover which was supposed to be waterproof, breathable etc etc. Yet anytime it rained, the cover stuck to the bodywork retaining the moisture. Would an old fashioned tarpaulin be best? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
 
I have a tailored "Noah" fabric cover from Covercraft, which is on my R129 all the time (unless it's dirty). The fit etc. is excellent, in heavy rain it does allow some moisture through but it dries out very quickly and keeps the car clean as well as protecting from sunlight.

Covercraft have another fabric called Weathershield which was my first choice, but they only had black in stock and I wanted a cover as soon as possible. Mine is nearly 2 years old now, I would certainly use Covercraft again.

I have never been a fan of car covers...

I was once at a Stealership and a gentleman had brought in his W220 S Class in black and the paintwork had been ruined and partailly stripped on the entire boot lid and near side rear quarter panel from using a car cover and patches of white could be seen.

I think if you get a decent one i.e. properly tailored for that specific car (so it doesn't flap about) and soft lining then they are OK. As mentioned, mine is on the car pretty much permanently, and after nearly 2 years there's no marking of the paintwork that I can see. It wasn't cheap, £200+ IIRC, but I wasn't going to risk a Halfords one for exactly the reasons you mention.

Certainly having the car under cover (garage or car port) would be preferable, if possible. Because I don't use the car everyday I'd probably still use a lightweight dust cover though.
