Hi Chaps,

Does anyone have any recommendations as to a half decent handheld car polisher/buffer around the £50-£60 mark (pads included would be a bonus)?!

Many Thanks in advance!

Yes.
Dont buy a cheap one is my recommendation.
I bought a half decent one via machine mart, think it was about £130, spot on. The guy who does valeting occasionally for me when I'm too busy liked it ;)

Cheers John, what make is your one and i'll have a quick butchers on the ol' web!

The anoraks on detailingworld recommend the Kestrel DAS6 - that's the cheapest of their recommendations. It's on my Xmas list so I did a search the other day and found machine plus pads for £100.

Ive got a silverline one and its great.... Not that ive used it much!

Jay can you send it down here and I will give it a bash during the upcoming holidays?

Which model have you got, and aren't the Silverline polishers mainly rotary? DA (dual action) is strongly recommended for "hobby" users.

Get yourself the dual action Meguiars unit which is built to run on UK voltage , or the Portercable which is built to run on US voltage so you will need a transformer.

These are the safe options and far less chance of damaging the paint.

Also check out the Detailingworld forum as there is plenty of discussion / recommendations on this stuff.

Megs G220 and Portercable are very similar to the DAS6 - but a lot more expensive. Cheapest I've seen a G220 without pads is about £130 compared to £80 for the DAS6.

Agree that detailingworld is the place to find info - just keep your wallet locked!

Cheers Chaps, the DAS 6 looks like the one to go for and have found that link with the pack for £100.00. OK, will add that to my prezzy list tonight - i just hope Santa thinks i've been good this year.

The Megs G220 costs £119.99 without pads
Meguiar's UK

Although they describe it as a limited offer, it has been selling for that price for most of the last year. I know because that is how long I procrastinated before buying one:) There is a new model due out soon, so the price of the G220 is likely to go down further.

And the eBay listing has gone - not even searching completed listings! I phoned him (the number was on the listing) on 01623 552288 and ordered direct, he told me he's expecting another shipment next week.

Also found a good deal on Sonus pads for it here :
Sonus SFX Foam Pad Set

other option is the dodo juice one which IRRC is fairly cheap.

Got a Meguiars G220 and it's honestly the best money I've spent. Every car i've polished comes up looking 10x better than it was.

From what I've read on detailingworld, there's not a lot of difference performance wise between the dodo juice, porter cable, G220 and DAS6, so to me it was all down to price - where the DAS6 wins. My DAS6, with 6", 5" and 3" pads plus a roll of 1" blue masking tape for £88.18 delivered arrived this morning - I'm happy!

Wow - that's cheap, the machine on its own is about that price in most places.

But why the smaller pads?
