Car
Not an MB right now :(
Hi All,
I am getting a bit tired of using the bluetooth thingy that you have to clip on to the ear (looking like a borg!!!), so was wondering how easy/difficult it is to get a proper kit installed in the car. Mine does not have the prewiring, is this expensive to have done?
Ideally I'd like to use the features available in the car (use the steering wheel buttons etc). And it would be great to have the contacts downloaded to the dash.
Any advice appreciated.

Hi Pete and welcome

If you do a search with "prewire" you'll find quite a lot of info. Hope you will be sitting down for it - cost for MB prewire retrofit is way in excess of £1,000!

A lot of people swear by PARROT kits - again, search on that and you will find lots of stuff

Hi

I had a Parrot fitted to my SLK and it has been nothing but trouble - in my previous car (CLK) I had a Nokia car kit that had a docking station fitted to the centre console on the dash. The downside to this was that I was restricted on the phones I could have as they had to be compatible with the kit. However, reception was brill.

When I changed my car I thought it would look much better without the car kit so visible so I had the Parrot kit fitted -what a disaster!

The small screen is stuck to the dash with a sticky pad, this came loose within 10 days, I didn't notice and it fell and got caught between the door and the post and is now broken, although still useable - just. The parrot frequently does not connect to the phone and this means I have to stop and turn my engine off and then on or turn my phone off and on until it connects or sometimes have to do both the phone and car. When I am driving the quality of sound is poor and if I have my roof down it is impossible to hear anything.

I have to make another trip back to Halford this week as my speakers are only working intermitently which tends to suggest a wire has become loose.

Never again! Take my advice and have a "proper" kit fitted.

I use a Visorblade. It clips on to the sun visor and you just flip down the mic to turn it on. It seems to cancel out background noise well as previously people who called me weren't aware I was driving an old TVR.

I have a parrot kit in my W202 and it is great, it's my 3rd carkit - previous 2 were nokia - and it is the best by far.

A lot of problems with carkits are due to the phone, not the car kit. Make sure the phone is fully compatible with the car kit before chosing the car kit and fiutting it.
