Caught in Flood

I hate the hindsight brigade but.... As my old sergerant used to say, "Regarding a flooded road, When in danger or in doubt, let some other idjut sort it out!" If your not sure how deep a flood is then pull over and watch other vehices go through and then make an educated decision. A car is a very, very bouyant vessel (until water ingresses) when it is deeper than the flloor pan it does not take much more to get a car floating. On roads that do not have a sideways force of water thi is not to bad, but a flooded ford can be fatal as the water will very quickly move the car sideways. Never, never, never gamble with your life. Hopefully you have learnt a lesson and my fingers are crossed it will not be too expensive.

good luck and enjoy your ski-ing,
Regards
John

And the other thing is if in doubt get out and try walking through it, so You get your feet wet, big deal, damn siight cheaper to buy a new pair of shoes...

Okay i'm back from a fantastic skiing trip in the Chatel. Still wish I was there...

Spoke to the garage on thursday whilst i was away and they seem to think it will cost in the region of 11k to fix.... (ooooppppsssss) written off then :-(

Just out of interest does this figure seem about right to you guys??

If you go back through threads in the incidents section to July last year you'll find one where Brian WH got caught in floods in a nearly new CLS. That got written off when the repair costs past 60% of the new value. So, £11k could easily be the cost of repairing yours.

the only thing i think is your richer than me because i think of the repair bill before i drive through the water, before i throw the remote for the tv at the wife,i think if it misses and hits the wall what will it cost £86 was the answer!

11K? What year is your car?
whats the actual diagnosis? For 11K that must mean the engine is dead as must be a lot of the electronics?

You should refrain from such things.

I went into a house where the couple were fighting and the TV had a black hole where the tube was.

Its her fault he said, I threw the butter dish at her and she ducked

Yep... Engine dead

They say it needs a new engine so if anyone know of a second hand 3.2 v6 lying around then i'd like to know about it..

What year is the car ?

If it's 11 grand to fix it , surely the car is a write off ( doubt a CLK 320 is worth 11 grand ) ...

Actually a car is written off when a claim is typically 60% of the value of the car ...

Just bite the bullet , claim up and get a new car .... the car will never be right after that amount of water ingress ....

I know you're right howard.... Just seems like a waste of a perfectly good car. I mean everything else works absolutely fine... Shame :-(
