hi -

yet another key fob wont unlock my car question

I have a 2006 C Class C200 CDI Avantgarde - bought 2 years ago and never had a problem until last week

went to get in and key fob would not unlock the central locking, I figured it was just the batteries in key fob so used the emergency key to get in and when you put the key fob in the ignition its start fine

changed the batteries but still the central locking will not lock / unlock with the key fob - and the old batteries still have a charge so now thinking its not the battery

only have one key so figure I need to get a spare anyway but even if I get one , if it does not work, I am not much better off

there are a few companies in the UK offering new keys/reprogramming etc, has any one had any experience with them and also any ideas re central locking not working - is this likely to be the key or in the car

thanks

update to this post

Took the car to a local dealer who said would need a new key from Germany as mine was no good - £250 ish and 5 days - but they would not confirm it would work and only at that time would they look at car for other faults and this would be on top of the key cost - estimated cost £400ish plus vat

didn't want to spend that so came back and read though all forum pages I could find, checked the fuses in the boot etc etc and then found a post about leaving the key in the ignition for an hour to sync - so I tried that

just been back out - actually 2 hours later as got side tracked - and its now working fine

so hopefully problem solved re this bit

still need a spare key - has anyone had any dealing with any of the UK companies on the net who provide keys

Well done. I would be tempted to phone them and say spending the £400 on a weekend away as I fixed the problem myself for free. No wonder people don't want to take cars anywhere near dealers.

You may find you will end up with a new key eventually, fingers crossed you don't.
