Following on from the leaky autodimming drivers door mirror thread, my W203 has the same problem (seems quite a common problem) and I would like to get mine sorted.

I am wondering whether I would be able to tackle this one myself. I'm not an expert DIYer, but am able to tackle reasonably straightforward work. The costs of a new autodimming mirror glass is very high, so I might just fit a standard non dimming one instead.

Has anyone else replaced the mirror glass on a W203? How easy is it to do? can anyone describe the steps needed to to the job?

Thanks, Robbo

Assuming you have folding mirrors...
Fold the mirrors in and have a look inside the opening.
You should see a chrome clip. Push this to one side with a flat bladed screwdriver whilst pulling the mirror cover.
It comes off easily.
Once off you will see the spring clips that hold the glass in place.

Simples...

Thanks Nibbo!

Yes, I have folding mirrors.

It looks like an easy enough job. Think I might take the plunge and have a go.

Cheers, Robbo

Got a price from MB for an autodimming mirror glass - £293 +Vat. Told them no thanks.

Instead I managed to get a used one off Ebay (£31.50+shipping). It arrived today in perfect condition and i managed to fit it in about 10 minutes. Really easy job. Everything seems OK, so I think its all sorted now.

Did this the other day on wifes car after reading that thread had a look and hers had gone a sort of bronze colour and had some misty patchs.
E bay £30:)

Non-Folding W203 mirrors - Any ideas?!

Typically, I bought a 2002 non-folding mirrors coupe and everything appears to be ok if I could just clip the mirror back on, but I'm unable to remove the mirror cover. Does anyone have any ideas?

The mirror itself popped out of its own accord, so I'm hopeful that I can simply remove the cover and clip it back on as it looks fine.

I've attached a couple of images so that you can see my dilemma!
