I hear what you are saying.....but both inner sills front and rear and a couple of inner wheel wells to cut out and weld in new metal and underseal over. That's a few days work absolute tops....there is two weeks in between pass and fail. When My BMW E30 failed on drivers floor and both rear inner sills it was finished the same day. MOT repair welding is not the same as a full body shop repair. Indeed it could be crap as suggested and best avoided.....or it might be years before any further structural welding is needed.....looking is the only way to tell. Its knocking on the door of 40 years old....some welding every few years is near inevitable.Very bad MOT fail to PASS with flying colours in a matter of a few days. Don't even consider it.
If the owner had done a pre MOT check and had the welding done the week before it would have flown through and you would never know.....which is why I never understand why people put so much on a good MOT history.....its completely worthless......my car has one (just one emissions fail in the time I've owned it)....I cant check that.....but, as an ex tester, I don't have time to tell you all the work I've had to do in the proceeding weeks to make sure that happens!!....not everyone can do that....so they get a poor MOT history, but they still might have a great car....as long as the fail points were attended to properly. MOT history wont stop me at least looking at a car.
