Cheap CLK55. Too cheap?

Just because something is cheap, doesn't mean it's rubbish and just because something is expensive, doesn't mean it'll be great.

Nope - but the exceptions to rules are normally that - exceptions. You generally tend to get pretty much what you pay for in life

Everyone likes a bargain (me included!), but nice things tend to cost more.

The reason that CLK55 is cheap is because it's a 125k miler petrol V8 that needs tidying. It's not a £5k minter being sold for £3k, it's a £3k car being sold for £3k

For just a few hundred quid extra I'd give the other one a look:

Better specced (COMAND, Bose, rear blind, black Nappa without discolouration), correct wheels, lower miles, nice plate

I'd actually seen that CLK on my searches the other day, it's not very far from me at all, so it'll definitely get looked at.

Dunno, supposed to be limited to 250km/h, but I think they're good for 170mph+ with a long enough road.

Either way, it's a fair bit of bang for your buck so long as it doesn't fall to pieces. The one on eBay with half the bumper missing might whistle a bit though at that sort of speeds.

Looks to be the best car on the thread, but i bet it needs work.

I would agree with Will 100% in buying the best car you can possibly find, both in-terms of resale if you want to move it on, or maintenance costs (and overall satisfaction) if its a keeper.

There will always be a buyer for a well-looked after good condition, sensible mileage AMG (like your old C36, SPX). I certainly wouldn't be confident trying to sell an equivalent car with big miles patchy history and needing bodywork, even if it was half the price.

You could easily spend the purchase price of the car again getting it into reasonable condition. Money which you are highly unlikely to get back.

Not sure what the OP or SPX's budgets are but i would be trying to haggle VERY hard on this:
