Cheap W124 estate

The rear bumper need replacing as well.

I'm gonna go back and drive the car to see if it is any good. Engine sound ok on idle but unless I can drive the car I am not giving him a penny. If drive is ok then I might make him a much lower offer which he takes or leaves...Any 124 specialist fancy coming with me ??

Come on guys there's no such thing as a bargin from a trader,if they gave stuff away their business wouldn't last 5 minutes. Before the prang the car was average at best.

Seems more of a genuine car

Just spoken to the seller. Another one that does not understand the meaning of FSH as the last service was done at 135000 miles and the car has 170000... He's also changed the radiator, like the previous one (but not with a genuine one). Is it a weakness of the model ??

it's got a full service history just that the last service is 49,000 miles overdue:)

I don't think that the rad is neccessarily a weak point but if you don't put anti freeze in them (or don't change what is in there for the best part of 50k miles then you are asking for trouble).

:D :D

My L reg has a 6,000 mile service interval, what is your's Andy?

Nick, some Mercs are cheap and some are nasty. That one looks like both.

Indeed Patrick it looks even more like it when the chap says it is a 1 owner car and HPI says 2 at least...

sorry my bad typing - I meant 29,000 :)

still looks like a neglected car though.

I'm no great believer in service histories when a car gets to this age - whoever buys my current car (if and when I decide to sell it) won't be getting a dealer service history but they will be getting a car that's been maintained regardless of cost. A cursory inspection tells you whether or not it's been looked after.

Andy,
I agree that service history is not always 100% essential but in that case you don't say it has FSH if it hasn't. Regular servicing is one of the key element to keeping a 124 so I will always prefer a car whose past is crystal clear to another one. I have a file for each car in which I keep all receipts and bills related to the vehicle so that the new owner can see for himself that I am not making something up and that the car has ahd regular maintenance.

Bought a w124 again after having various new mercedes, and Ill be having oil changes every 6k, the car has a full service history buy had'nt been driven much over the past 2 years, so Ive spent a few quid on it to make sure everything is ok, to my suprise the ATF that came out was almost as good as what I put back in.
But if you buy one its worth spending the money at the begining, that way you should be onto some reliable and cheap motoring:)

exactly and it is my intention, once the right motor has been found, to pop down the local specialist and get all the oils (engine, gearbox, axle), all the filters, coolant, brake fluid and plugs changed so that I start from "scratch" and I know therafter when to change the relevant items.

The Hpi report on the car "suggested" by Aka$h is even more interesting: it shows two searches for that vehicle in early jan by an auction house...
