right.

after a road angel 2 having received an sp40. insurance up by 70 quid and 3 points for a few years. great.

the angel needs a ciggy lighter socket and my sl320 does not have one. now, either i am being blind or it has not got one. perhaps it is some form of non-smoker pack? i know bmw do that sort of thing, ie the pack is an extra cubby hole as opposed to an ashtry and lighter. either way, i am mystified.

as for the angel, any tips? anything better or cheaper perhaps? a guy told me i could 'hard wire' it, whatever that means. it sounds tricky and costly. i know an engine uses petrol and makes a noise, but little else about mechanics or electrics. i mean, i have smooth hands. i work in a warm place!

any advice gratefully received. perhaps steve with his 2001 sl320 has a clue?

From memory , if i was to guess , its under the small roller blind between the front seats. IF its not there , goodness knows. prob just hard wire it into the glovebox light and run the cable up the a pillar. :)

the govt wants to ban the detectors that use radar and laser so the road angel might not be a good long term idea unless they can be removed seperately from the main unit. A straight GPS camera locator might be best. If you want something discrete and no hassle have a look at www.smartnav.com a lot more expensive than the road angel but you get sat nave thrown in :D

or try the tom tom go sat nav unit http://www.totalpda.co.uk/TomTom-GO.aspx that now has firmware updates that supports various GPS camera locator databases.

The two places that the cig lighter was fitted on the SL are either in the bottom cubby hole on the main console or under a roller cover...(lower one) on the armrest inbetween the two front seats.

I have had the powerlead in the SL permanently installed as it annoys me that the cig lighter plugs keeps jumping out.

Get a Roadpilot or micro, much more reliable and readable than a Roadangel and no unnecessay laser/radar addons
