Well, right years into my car's life one of the TPMS sensors has died. Not bad I guess, but a little frustrating.

I'm trying to find out the cost of getting it replaced - I'm definitely not going to Mercedes otherwise there will be no presents for any children this year!

Happy to go with Halfords or an Indy.

Any recommendations on South West London - or failing that experiences and costs nationally.

All info gratefully received!

Buy 4 and have a tyre centre fit them. Better still if you can wait until you need tyres . Average cost probably supply n fit £80 a wheel. No programming is required, as they learn after say 5 miles of driving.

Thank you. Do none of them require coding anymore? The guy at Kwik fit this morning said they would definitely need to be coded so they don't do them! I'd have thought this would have been easy money for them. It would have been this morning.

I've just fitted 4 for the wifes winter tyres and despite them being sold as pre programmed, the car does not recognize them.

For a Merc ?

No, sold as pre programmed for Nissan, but the car will not pick them up.

Thought as much. 👍. Maybe like fords they need teaching in via a few dash button presses . ?? And an eBay zapper tool.

The ‘Corporate’ Relearn
Most Nissans require the use of an enhanced/factory scan tool or dedicated TPMS tool, unlike some domestic systems where a relearn procedure can be performed by just pressing a few buttons on a key fob. The tool must be able to talk to the BCM through the OBD II port to initiate a learning mode or input sensor IDs.

This is sometimes called a “corporate” TPMS relearn procedure because it once could only be performed with an OE scan tool. But now there are aftermarket tools and software that can perform the task.

With some tools, it is possible to excite the sensor with a low-frequency signal and record the information with the tool. The information can then be programmed into the TPMS module through the OBD II connection.

Would these work? They're cheaper but seem to be the thing I need. Couldn't find the ones above on Halfords... Their search function isn't great though.

I've never heard of the company, but looks legitimate etc. Anyone had experience?

I just put my reg into Halfords , I didn't search , but yes the tpms warehouse is a good shout . Just get them fitted and drive for 5 minutes, they will show pressure on the dash . Nothing like a nissan . 😏

Pretty sure that site lists the teaching process also ,for all makes.

Thanks so much. Right. I'll pop my order in tonight.

One last question, sorry to keep on(!), should I do all four at once or just leave it till they fail? There's no real saving to doing them all together bar avoidance of faff... Which is something!

As long as you know which has failed and you can keep track. 👍. They can last anything upto 10 years apparently.

Not tried it myself. Just putting it out there....:

I've had 3 sets of alloys from wheelbase ,all with aftermarket tpms, orange Huf . They are actually now £95 for 4 with new wheels . £150 on the website .

I've bought new sensors to fit to set of winter wheels. The first set I bought didn't work - the car picked up three of them but somehow seemed to assign them to the wrong wheels (judging by the reported pressures), and the radio frequency scanner that they use at Kwik-Fit couldn't pick up any of them. I got my money back from the eBay seller.

So I spent a little more (not much - £67.49 for all four) and got a set of DuroSense pre-programmed sensors. These worked perfectly, and the car picked them up very quickly.

On my 2010 S212 there's a procedure in the dash to 'use current pressures as reference values' (or similar wording to that effect). I believe that's what's required to get the car to pick up the new sensors - at least, that's what I did, and it picked them up very quickly. Maybe it would without that procedure, but since I'd adjusted the pressures correctly that seemed like a good thing to do anyway.

For the record, the set that DIDN'T work is here: 4X TPMS Tyre Pressure Sensor A0009050030 For Mercedes-Benz W205 W212 W205 C204 | eBay

If I did this and they then worked, would the summer wheels work when changed back over again?
I do this with the Mercedes, 2 sets of wheels, 2 sets of TPMS sensors, but both work without any programming.

No. You'd probably have to teach in the others again. Each sensor has its own unique id ,like a barcode, they register to an ECU .. I've had a quick look and you'd have to go to a tyre centre with the correct tool to do them. Something like autel maxi tpms . On further reading the tpms warehouse can make you a cloned set if you can get the id from your old sensors , that way the car will recognise all 4 as the same.

Just a quick note to thank all who helped. Got new sensor (£32 from tpms warehouse) fitted (£24) today. 5 minutes drive up the A3 and all sorted.

For others going on this journey, the warning light keeps flashing for the first five minutes. Fear not. It will disappear.

Also a shout out to surbiton tyre services. If you're in SW London and looking for tyres (or fitting tpms) give them a shout. They are great.

Thanks.
