A couple of weeks ago i decided to have the Secondary Cats taken off the CL.

While they where doing that i decided to have the middle boxes also taken off. BIG MISTAKE. It sounded fantastic on the outside, the inside was a different story. The resonating on the inside was unbearable.

I also found a company that would re-chrome my exhaust tips. As they are attached, they had to be cut off.

I received the Tips back from the restorer yesterday, they have done a fantastic job. Marque Restorer of Coventry

So today i took the CL back to the exhaust people to have the Tips and the centre boxes put back in there rightful place. The sound now is perfect, a very nice sound without the Cats and the shiny new Tips look great.

The main reason i am writing this is to recommend Craig of Style Dynamix Ltd of Hayes. Middx. 020 8419 8314 ( Longlife Franchise ) What a fantastic and professional job they have done. Attention to detail, very knowledgeable and nothing was to much trouble.

Glad you got it sorted Peter - looking forward to hearing it!

Good meeting you again today Peter, hope you weren't there too long after I left.

Great love to hear how it sounds next tme I see you!

Good meeting you again today Peter, hope you weren't there too long after I left.

It was good to see you again, as we said "small world"

I left about 3 o'clock, not to bad. They did a great job, very pleased.

cant wait to hear it Peter!

in regards to the resonating, when they removed the middle box, did they put in a X pipe? this is needed to stop the resonating inside the car.

My tips will prob need doing at some pint so worth knowing! thanks

I'm not sure re the X pipe. The CL has two centre boxes, if that's got anything to do with it ?. You must have the same setup on your 55 though. Maybe they are not as good as i thought !! I am guided by the advice from the expert in there field.

No X pipe on my SL, and no resonating! The centre box was replaced by a simple Y pipe.

Maybe X is needed if you have two completely separate tail sections?

I took some photo's before and after. Looking at them i can't see a X pipe !!

As you know i have Adam here detailing my S-Class/CL55 at the moment, i will ask him to post a couple of photo's, as I'm useless.

Hi Peter , they have installed a adjoining pipe which effectively would do a similar thing to the X pipe, you done the right thing putting the middle box back on.

I keep changing my mind weather my center box shoand cats should come out, but the exhaust note when the car is warm is lovely, almost silent when cold, so i might leave mine well alone :)

alot of people on hte MBworld site have done the decat mod worth taking a browse!

are the centre cats/boxes under/near the gearbox?

where are the secondary cats?

Yes the secondary cats are under the geabox and the centre boxes are just past centre.
