CL55 from the South Coast

That's some serious rear rubber! How do you find the SportMaxx? Only ever had PilotSport 3 and PilotSuperSports

Only ever done these on a Bora, so by no means an apples-to-apples example, but there was certainly extra 'crispness' and precision after, and no decernable increase in firmness, so I'd say go for it!

The unknown issue with the Dunlops when I changed to them in Dec 2007 was the wear and longevity, as they were only just out then and I was one of the first to put them on an XK.

Well, they're still on there after almost 7 years (yes, I know I should be replacing them!) and 24,000 miles but the rears still have 3+mm and the fronts 4mm. I have them aligned twice a year, though - not cheap as it's 4-wheel jobbie - and keep the pressures right and it certainly seems to be worth it.

It also stopped the tramlining I got with the Pirellis and others have reported that, too.

Back to our CLs ....... mine has several small areas of "rust" where I presume the aluminium has reacted with the steel - does yours have any? I'm going to have to have this done and have read that, if done properly it doesn't come back ........ do you know?

Cheers,

Stuart

Encouraging the hear the Dunlops have held up well - always good to have solid reports when you're dropping close on £200 per corner!

Wear so far on the CL has been very pleasing, and remarkably even between front and rear as well.

Regarding rust, there's an area maybe 3cm x 1cm where the C pillar meets the body which looks like its had some attention in the past, so possibly there, but otherwise it seems ok. My understanding is that the bonding method was improved for the 2002 and again 2004 model year (others feel free to correct on this!) so these suffer less, but can't be of much help on the longevity of treatments I'm afraid.

My window trims are in a shocking state though, so will have them replaced come service time.

Also, with yours, do you have to wait maybe half a second between pulling the door handle, and the window sinking sufficiently for the door to open? Can't decide if this is just how it is, if my motors are slightly slow, or I've just not mastered the technique / am doing it cack handedly?

I saw my first CL in the week in Bury St Edmunds, WOW I fell in love with the shape and interior looks of the car. When we got home I went on the MB used site to have a browse at some CL500 , got caught by the other half !! " Not another car surely "

Always a danger! It could go two ways, but maybe take her to see one in the flesh - I won over a few doubters that way, and a few more once under way!

The window drop - yes, there's a moment's delay, slightly longer than the one in the Jag ........ might be to do with the door sealing system. I suspect it's normal, unless anyone more experienced knows? Guess we're supposed to do everything more leisurely, driving a CL!? :D
