Hi All ...Just after a bit of advice please and thought this would be the best place to start ...Have just bought a CL55k AMG Supercharged that has TOTAL impeccable FMBSH ..It is a 2004 car and has corrosion from the inside out as such on both sides of the rear wheel arches low down by the sill and towards the door shut ...I bought the car and put it straight in to MB of Redhill for a health check and a freah MOT for peace of mind and it passed everything with no faults or issues ...MB Redhill said just send all the paper work off to Hughes of Beaconsfield and they will process the paint under their 30yr corrosion/perforation warrenty ..Hughes have got back to me to say that MB UK have refused the claim as I have only had the car a month ???? Although the history is faultless and its was their £110k flagship model at the time I beleive ...Any advice guys would be greatfully received and apologies for the long post ...Kind regards Taz [email protected]

If it has full MBSH then as far as I know they should honor the claim regardless of how long you've had it.

There isn't typically a clause in such contracts which excludes the transfer of such a guarantee. I haven't seen the MB one as yet but commonly these are transferrable between owners, particularly so if the service history is with MB. I'd query this one and ask for an explanation if I were you.

I thought you had to own the car for a year before MB would do anything. I was told dealers would get them and have the work done under warranty and sell on. To stop this the 1 year ownership was introduced.

I think you have to own the car for the past 6 months, and have full MBSH

you have to have owned the car 6 months before you can claim.

Hi All ...Thanks for the replies ...So you have to own the car 6 months before they will do anything ! Seems odd but will definately not give this up and try and get hold of MB UK customer care line ...Once again THANK YOU

Not wishing to Hijack this thread.....

I have the same issue on my 2002 ML - some corrosion on the wheel arches, owned it more than 6 months, but only has a partial MBSH.

Can I still make a claim do you think?

They will worm their way out of that one for sure!

May try it on this Saturday! I think it is fair - tailgate has a bit and the bonnet too....

I think that almost all of the claims that are processed by MB these days fall outside of the warranty conditions in some form or another, AFAIK many are granted under 'goodwill' and as such they normally decide on a case-by-case basis taking many factors into account.

The 6-month+ logic is such that if you're trying to get a car repaired after just a few weeks, it goes without saying that the defects were present when the car was purchased, and it's assumed that the price paid should have reflected that. A few years back, traders were picking up rusty W210s etc from auction cheaply, having new panels and resprays done FOC and then selling them on at a profit.

If it's got full MBSH without gaps and no previous paint repairs, maybe try again in a few months time, or have the work carried out privately by a reliable local bodyshop if you're in more of a hurry :)

Will

Correct

The OP hasnt got a chance with MB under their 30yr so called guarantee.

There is much written on both this Forum and maybe even more on the other about this subject

bottom line is-

1. there has NEVER been a successful claim for rust under the Mobilo scheme
2.Any work done has been under " goodwill" and in order for that to apply the owner must have FULL MBSH and have owned the car for a year to stop dealers buying poor cars and MB fixing them
3. The above only seems to apply up to 8 year old cars ( dont forget its "goodwill" not 30 yr Mobilo)

:cool::(

Body work warranty claim.

We have just had the tailgate redone on our 2002 ML55AMG. we tryed to put a claim in when we first had the two years ago. Our response was that the dealer would only process the claim if you were a valued customer and had history with that particular dealer. The logic behind this was that the dealers do all the leg work and recieve no funding from MBuk for their time. o.k. a bit awkard you may think. Twelve months later after having some spares and a major service service done on our ML, we tried the claim again, the tailgate had rusted around the catch above the number plate, " a common thing we were told caused by robot handling in the factory". The dealer agreed to process the claim but we were told that our vehicle was only 1 week inside the warranty period which has now been reduced to 8 years due to a large amount of claims. MBuk agreed to the claim but due to the vertually expired warranty we had to pay 50% of the claim. This was a shock but it only amounted to £198 so we agreed to it to keep the car mint. In all fairness the quality of the repair is absolutley A1 and the dealers professionalism 100% with courtesy car etc. hope this helps.

hi
have just got my second merc s320 w220 and love it, got it from the old man as they were offering a silly price for trade in against a b class. Unfortunately the bodywork is suffering a bit from the china syndrome (has rust coming thro on all but two body panels). Thought i might give the local mb dealer a try regarding the mobilo warranty, it has a full mbsh with bodywork inspection.
What sort of problems am i likey to encounter in geting it done under the so called warranty?

See post 12 above. If you have had the car over 12mths and its been serviced by your local dealer andits under 8 years old , then you have a chance....remember its " goodwill" you are after so stay on that tack;)

Had corrosion repairs carried out in both 2007 & 2008 under goodwill (no charge to me), when car was less than 8 years old. Only had MBSH for first 3 years.

In 2009, more corrosion - claim approved, but was only offered a small contribution, 15% I think, as car was now over 8 years old.

There do seem to be variations depending on which dealer you approach, so worth trying another one if you have no luck with the first.

thanks cn
Only just got the car (1week), so might have a problem there although i will be taking it to jacksons in guernsey, the dad bought it from thier poole franchise and has had it serviced by them he has also bought a new gl (just) from them and a b class, so will be working on that.
Anyway nothing ventured

Hi All...Just a quick update to say that this 8 yr / 30yr anti corrosion / perforation warranty isnt worth the paper its written on ,...They are saying that the price I paid for the car reflects the condition of the car and that I havent owned it long enough....basically they dont know what I paid for it and theyve never seen it ...Very poor ...Anyway will get the paint done by myself ...many thanks for all your time and advice ..Kind regards Taz
