Hi all,
Has anyone got any experience of cl63 ownership they would like to share? I have searched the forum and there is plenty of threads on the c63 but practically nothing on the cl63.
I think they look absolutely cracking and I am sure go like stink but with all the gizmo's like night vision etc I am concerned about reliability.
Cheers,
MB

Generalising here, but I don't worry about what might go wrong - just enjoy the toys.

My night vision has been faultless.

CL's are fab :thumb:.

I too would like to see more info and discussion on the 63. I own one but having owned it for just over 24 hours I am not quite in a position to comment on the joys or pitfalls of owning it. The drive from Portsmouth to Preston when I collected it was awesome though. Roof open, music on, blasting along listening to the burble of the v8 was great.

I too would like to hear more about CL63 (6.2's and Bi-Turbos), but I guess its more to do with the rarity of the car.

In 2013, only 265 CL63 (6.2's) on the road and,
only 95 CL63 (Bi-Turbo's) on the road.

Owned mine for a couple of months now, and apart from it representing the "Enterprise" class aircraft carrier size on the road, I adore it.

I love how rare it is. Love it that is a specialist car. The value for money now is brilliant.

I have owned my CL63 since 2008 , in that time only done about 15k miles, changed the complete set of tyres twice, had a small problem with rear window motor , wheel sensors, and driver seat side air cushions. Apart from that it's been a brilliant
car and I love it being in my life!

Just to give an update. Loving the CL63 although it is proving a wallet badger. Had an issue with a knocking coming from front left side after numerous trips to a fantastic specialist who kindly eliminated the cheapest possible things first it ended up needing a full front left strut which MB Preston supplied and fitted for a cool £2800 all in. Bargain! . Had a problem with drivers side front calliper sticking causing a vibration when driving, had that sorted today but may require a new calliper, will know in a week or so if the work done today has sorted it so will update then. Seriously though I still think it is worth it. It's a car with everything and I'm not sure what other car I could change to that would be better or tick more boxes without spending twice the money?

Hiya,

Did you ever get to the bottom of the issue with the caliper ?

Or did you have to buy a replacement caliper.

Thanks in advance !

Hello chap!

Is that a supercharged E39 M5 you have there?

:D

Haha yes indeed !! :D

I am sure I will figure out who you are

The M5 has been parked up at my mechanics and I am going over some options for a full on forged rebuild.

But I was quite liking the idea of a CL63 for a bit.....and this Weistec thingy sounds like a lot of fun ;)

Bloody hell. What power are you looking to get out of it?

Just about the replace the IC pump on mine and may be considering another pulley change. Was running at 580 > 600 (so a way off you I seem to remember), but I guess it could end up at 620/630...

Some of the Weistec charged C63s are running in the mid 7s. Having driven one running at around 750BHP - it was unbelievable. Wheelspinning in all gears in the wet and wanting to kill itself!

Love the CL's, the interior Is beautiful !!!!!!!

I'm on my second CL63 and they've both been fine.

Just buy one that's been looked after, has MB/ reputable specialist history backed up with invoices and you should be ok.

If you don't know what your looking for in terms of likely faults then invest in an MB or specialist pre purchase inspection and thoroughly check the history - there are some abused, clocked dogs out there with faked histories and largish sums needing spending on them so be on your guard.

If you find a nice one, buy it and accept the fact that they're complex cars and things wear out so you may occasionally get a big bill.

Hey ! I love the E55 Kompressors and was so close to getting one but ended up with the M5 back in 2008 and rest was sort of history.

I am at about 640 hp. After the rebuilt bottom end and a bigger supercharger and a few items it should be at a reliable 750 hp +or so....BUT its really going to be a slow project now as I have taken that car out of daily duty.

I fancy something a bit different and the CL63 seems lovely and the engine has proven it can take some forced induction love which would be nice a short while into ownership. Something about 2 door, big engined, Mercedes...I had R129 SL500 ages ago and really loved it.

I wish you all the best with your E55K !

Yes very good advice....!

Actually my post in this thread was to enquire as to whether Preston-m3 had sorted his brake caliper issue out....(he has his car up for sale you see ;))

I'd love to buy a forum member / fellow enthusiast's car !

I still look back on the other place but not so much now.

Good luck with the E39 - I imagine that will be a lot of fun particularly as it is a manual.

I will PM Preston-m3 for you and let him know you are interested!
