Car
S211 Sprinter 213CDI, & the new T-class
I have just watched a brief CL65 road test on Motors TV 'Maxi Test' (Sky channel 413) No doubt it will be repeated and the program information is headed, ""In this Special Edition of Maxi Test, Motors TV brings to you all of its favourite models."" Shown 10-30am Saturday.

What a car, drool, drool,. I was definitely in the minority when I said I did not like the CLS, BUT this vehicle is something else. Having said that I suppose I like (love) its looks, interior styling, and exterior accessories which are additional to the basic CL.

I would love to have everything both in, and on the vehicle except the engine!!! Weird or what??? Personally I would love to see it have the 400CDI???? a DIESEL!!! The car looked uncomfortable going round the Le Man circuit, obviously most of this was due to the driver, but it still looked 'uncomfortable'.

I cannot see the sense in having such a powerful engine in a road car other than for the super car brigade that only come out to pose in their 'megabuck-mobiles !!! (Ouch)

The CL/E/SL/SLK/CLS55AMG's, are to me at the top end of sensible every day car use, anything bigger is too much for me. I have not seen any 600's so perhaps they best be considered sensible-mobiles as well :)

Once again these are my very conservative views which I throw into the interesting ring of discussion.

A CL400CDI AMG :) :) I would very seriously consider buying 'the boss' one. (what would I do with the pooch though??)

still like the idea of having a Sprinter 400CDI AMG for me though. :D

Regards,
John

a friend of mine phoned me up yesterday as he had seen his first S400CDI in the uk - he then asked me if he should run him off the road and nick his engine for me...

4 litre V8 turbo? yes please... and i dont care what fuel you lob in it.

Given the choice of an AMG 65/55 (E/SL/CL/CLS) or a 400CDi I'd go for the Petrol everytime. The AMG engines sound fantastic. I can't see any reason for going for the diesel except for better mpg.

Hi Richard,
I understand what you are saying, but there is already a precedent for diesel AMG's. The C30 AMG and it has had some excellent reviews.

The sound though of a petrol AMG is something to behold. Who knows what developments are in the pipeline regarding noise coming out of the end of the exhausts though. I think Honda have done a lot of research and development in that field. The deep rumble of a V8 is not like the high pitched 'scream' of a high revving petrol engine.

Don't forget the 320CDI holds its own against the 320 petrol engine. :D (Great big cheesey grin)

Regards,
John

Is that still in production?

The guy that gave us a tour of AMG in 2003 spoke of there not being any more Diesel AMG projects as Diesel was not really the image of AMG.

Hi Graham,
Obviously at the time this person was no doubt correct but times move and and engine development also is taking tremendous strides I sometimes have a little chuckle at people that criticise diesels as being, slow, smelly, noisey things.... this is the link:

I'd say it does far more than just holds its own John!
