CLA220d service cost

I would definitely opt for a service plan for this service. As said already it works out significantly cheaper than what you’ve been quoted as PAYG, and what would you do next year - a service B with additional items could be more than you think :)

If the last B-service was not performed correctly (items missed) would it be worth contacting the dealer you bought it from? It must have been approved used so I’d have expected these items to have been rectified prior to sale and for the warranty etc to be valid. Maybe approach them for the DSB to be sent to you and you can check what was/was not done (it would show this for the service in question)

Regarding the battery issue, if you’re only doing a couple of hundred miles a month, and short journeys, it’s almost certainly in need of a longer run and/or maintenance charge. A CTEK would be a great shout, especially at this time of year - and cheaper than a new battery which would likely end up with the same issue in a matter of weeks.

I did wonder about the service AFTER the next one (ie the 'B' due in Feb 2026) - I'll be getting an 'A' in Feb 2025, but by Feb 2026 I'll probably only have done another 4000 miles max....so....I did wonder if it'd even need a 'B' by then. Anyhow, thanks for the advice, I'll have a think.

The service intervals are time bound as much as they are mileage. So it would only require a service earlier if you were doing very high annual mileage (eg 20k+ per year)

In other words, it will still require a B service even if you are only doing 4k miles per year.

If you already have a battery charger - that can be used whilst the battery is on the car - then it should be OK but without knowing the details it’s difficult to say for sure.

I only ever recommend CTEK as they are simple to use and safe to connect and leave connected whilst the battery is on the car. Their warranty and support is spot on, but they’re not cheap.

Prices can vary significantly, anything between £50 and £100 on Amazon (not including sales) and prices vary between retailers too. I think I paid as little as £42 on Amazon a few years ago.

I personally wouldn’t be without them, I probably have 8 or 9 of them now. If you buy a conditioner from a car manufacturer - or it’s supplied new with the car then it will be a CTEK unit with a logo on it.
I just went to get my trusty trickle charger out (not a CTEK, but even so!) and it’s making weird noises and the LEDs are all over the place. I think I’ve had my money’s worth - must be at least 15 years old now :)

And I actually made the trip to collect it from the boat yesterday to use it!

If anyone spots a deal on a CTEK please post away
